Guys, would you consider ryobi's 18v series (jigsaw, circ saw, reciprocal saw, 2 3Ah batteries, charger and angle grinder) all for less than R6000? Purely diy use. Makita will cost almost R20k. Will last me forever, but that's a lot of bike part money...

I was once told by a friend that if he had to choose between a chair and a (t)Ryobi tool to assemble a project, he would probably choose the chair.

Personally never had a Ryobi tool last, not at home or at work and this isn't the el cheapo green line product either.

I stick to Black and Decker or Makita.

Black and decker has a levo range where the battery is standard and it uses the various tool "heads", worth looking into. Buy once is my motto......

There's a lot more choices in the dispensable power tool market, take a visit to Adendorrrffff as well. If you are in the Eastgate area, Mega Mica have a few other el-cheapo brands there that I cant remember, and their prices & service are generally good. Better to go there than Builders, promise!

Although I buy Makita/Metabo/Bosch Blue/Fluke etc I started off with what I could afford back in the day.  Hard to justify a 2 or 3 times premium for a power tool that gets used once in a blue moon. Besides bragging rights of course.

Jip, my boet's Makita stuff takes a proper beating on the farm, but they keep going. Guess I'll have to build up a Makita collection for my 6yr old laaitie...

I have a very old Makita belt sander (via an ex) that must be 30+ years old, still runs well. Its a beast. Unlike my lighter plastic R4k+ Bosch Blue that has a habit of melting.

My dad had some issues where the only assistance he got was from the guys in CPT.

Hi guys, I am looking for some steel for a Biesemeyer type fence. Angle iron and square tubing, 5 mm wall thickness. Any suppliers in Centurion, Pta, Midrand? The normal guys only have up to 2 mm wall thickness.

If you are going to make one then I suggest watching this video, brilliant instructions and looks like it wouldnt be super difficult if you have the tools required.

I would say no, their cordless tools have the worst batteries you can imagine. My farther in law has had a few of their li-ion 18V tools and both batteries supplied never lasted more than a year.

My Bosch green cordless drill is going on 3 years now and still as good as the day I bought it.

Corded tools I dont mind Ryobi, but will never touch their cordless stuff.

Weirdly I have an electric planer and belt sander that are the old Ryobi industrial units, never seen any of those for sale these days but they will not die no matter what I do to them. I would rate those at similar quality to the older Makita stuff(comparing to tools my grandfather had)

I need to replace the 13mm chuck on my makita portable drill. It started slipping/unlocking. Tried a Tork Craft....waste of time and money. Any recommendations? Btw, bought an AEG portable drill from swop shop (new ). Can't say I was disappointed , as I did not expect much. Thought I could use the chuck if drill not OK. Chuck slips anyway!
