Can you oaks stop posting your rubbish.

I am still trying to figure out how to cut everything in straight lines without the cable savagely attacking my ankles.

No, I am not jealous. And I dont lie. Well sometimes.

back when people used pagers...fax machines and dot matrix printers...they used cords to power the units keys in chucks etc...in this day and age...we have a new technology called cordless...with lithium batteries which can run brush less machines for hours...no cable to attack you...now i am looking forward to pipe less vacuums ;)

Unfortunately some of us still dwell in the corded age and our salary cheques are testament to this....

I feel Slowbee's pain. I do however long for a time when I can take out a power tool and not have to select the appropriate length extension cord.....

At this stage of the game my only cordless item is a 10mm 18V drill from Adendorff... It does the job and is generally my goto but you do get what you pay for :D

But have you seen the prices now, think I paid R500 for the set and bought a Gedore socket set. Think it was R500 as well.

and even after 25 years of using a ratchet...it finally gave in...i took it back to gedore in new germany...they said they would get back to me about repairing it..a week later they gave me a brand new one....not that i use the ratchet much anymore...i have cordless impact drivers.

back in the appy days stahlwille was the best tools money could buy...like festool ...just out of reach for most of us.

i am fortunate with tools...being hands on i believe you are only as good/fast as your equipment...my time is the most expensive part of my invoice...so i make sure my customers get value for money...i make use of what ever is required to speed up the job...also being an electrician there is never power on site...just about every power tool i own is cordless...it also helps with the tax bill.

pity i canned tapatalk (ads got a bit much) i would have posted a pic of my charge station.

stahlwille and gedore cost about the same these days .......

I have a cordless drill/driver 18v Dewalt. Its epic almost always reach for it before I know how ill be using it for that job.

Rest of the tools corded and doesn't really bother me all that much. I might like a mouse type cordless sander and a jigsaw, rest I just don't use enough atm to need or want cordless.

My 1/2" Stahlwillie ratchet started to slip on one of the ratchet teeth so I took it to the agents in Springfield Park. With a lifetime guarantee I expected to either get it repaired or replaced. Got a call a week later to come collect. No repair or replacement. Was classified as wear and tear on a moving part.....

any bosch fans? I see Bosch north america is running a competition , offering 2000 of the new bosch combi drill+driver with both modes driven by impact. They call it the "freak".

Do any of the local bosch fans know if and when that little monster is coming to our shores?

edit: ok. this seems to be a rebranding exercise of a pre-existing model of impact wrench/driver for half inch sockets and quarter inch bits. The rebrand however is underpinned by their new Core18v battery packs.

meh. somewhat deflating, but i'm still keen on upgrading from my current impact driver. Love that thing to bits ;)

that sucks...that was the response i was expecting from gedore...instead they replaced the unit...didnt even need an invoice with proof of purchase.

when it comes to impact drivers...makita wins hands down...i bought the new brushless impact driver...the only issue i found ...it has too many setting...it is going to take a while for me to get use to changing the setting for the right application...the drive speed is ridiculously fast.

i looked at the the bosch one below...it just wasnt strong enough to drive the hilti concrete bolts.

Friday was a bit quiet (when is it not, actually) so I had a bit of a mess around. What could I make from a single piece of beech, 400 X 58 X 40?

My bikes have been driving me nuts, cluttering the workshop, so ... one bike rack coming up.

(OK, so I cheated with the saligna. It was a leftover that I messed up on another job, but already had most of the tenon cut. Horrid wood to work with; the grain is all over the place.)

What else have we been up to? Here's another thing made out of some scraps. There's no such thing as bad wood if you work around it.

It started with some old chipboard, and industrial quality pine where the 3m boards were quite warped and twisted. But there are usually straight bits in-between.

There's some used meranti cover strip in there too. The top is saligna, a whole pile that I got at the Rare Woods sale for R2000. I think I've used up all the vaguely decent bits already though  .
