[Event] 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour - Argus

YES! Only 4 weeks, this is more exciting than Santa Claus for a 6 yr old!

Unfortunately no training this weekend, it's back to freezing and even a little snow + got my nephew over for the weekend.

With my registration, I paid a little extra to support another rider. Does anyone know how that works? It's only 150ZAR so not enough to cover the whole fee. How many riders benefit from this and how do they get selected?

2A again for me this year, for the third time in a row. I've been off for around 2 months due to injury and thus couldn't do the Burger and other races which I ordinarily would have done. I did a 3:14 in the Argus last year and my last race prior to the 99er yesterday was the Durby Dash which moved my seeding up from G to E. I started in group C yesterday. Surely 2A can't be the correct group for me to start in again this year? 3 years back I did a 3:29 (whilst also having started in 2A), then it was the year of the fires (I also started in 2A then), then the 3:14 last year (from group 2A!!! Surely I should have been bumped up to the 1 groups by now? Your thoughts and whether I can and should do anything about possibly moving up a notch or 2? Yesterday's 99er boosted my confidence as I finished in 3:06:32, a 6 minute improvement on last year's race.

The seeding scenario is a bit of a black box, KTB.

It's seemingly inconsistent and does not have clear predictors for success (seeding improvement).

Remember there are penalties on old Argus results.

What works best for me is to boost my seeding on the PPA ladder overall.

That seems to guarantee a lekka start time at CTCT even without all the seeding races (I've discontinued with that for several seasons now).

Sterkte ????????

Was invited to ride it twice, and Would've been great to do it, but 3 CtCt race entry fees in one month is a bit much.

Might be 4 entries for me, both MTB rides and then the double road. Will see how things go.

The seeding system changed a bit over the past few years. You 2016 Argus time would now have a time penalty and all non-official seeding races would have a penalty of 5 (only when calculating Argus seeding, not when calculating your PPA seeding).

Best way now to improve your seeding from where you are is to either do the One Tonner in Oct or Die Burger in Nov as those are official seeding races (and they won't have time penalties like the 99er and this year's Argus)

Does one have to have a racing license to ride in $?

There is a long story, but the short answer from their website/faq "Do I need a license to participate? Cycling South Africa (CSA) day licenses or annual licenses are not required for the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour."

Every other road race of the year I'm seeded in $ but when CTCT comes around I drop to the next group. Besides getting a top 10 there isn't much more I can do to be seeded better.

So I was just wondering if they expect more payment to ride in $.

This year I'm over trying to be fast, going to drop back to 2F and ride with mates.

you guys fancy a hubber meet up on the Saturday afternoon before the argust ?

maybe do a charity/toy/fun ride for a cup of coffee or something ? A gentle slow pace family type ride aloong the sea point promenade to camps bay for coffee/sundowners or whatever?

If enough yes's will put up another thread.

If it's on the Atlantic Seaboard and it doesn't end at Bootleggers it does not count [emoji41]

What sort of time are you thinking?

I will be staying in Fish Hoek and usually do a morning ride through Sun Valley and up Chappies and back home. Can see how things work out and maybe drive through. Don't want to do too much riding the day before.

I won't be able to make it.

That weekend is just too jam-packed with family from all over visiting for a wedding, and of course the Argus. Can you believe! Anyone thinking a wedding the evening before the race would be a good idea?! But I suppose we all have those black sheep (non cyclists) in the family! The earlier they let me leave, the bigger a wedding gift I will give the couple! :D

LOL. My toppie got married on currie cup final day and his team(golden lions) was in the final and in those days there was no phones or social media to quickly check the score. He got some flack from a few of his mates.

My wedding was the day after the currie cup semi where my team(WP) beat the lions. I was still trying to write my speech during the game.

Luckily while in Mauritius on honeymoon I was able to follow the final and luckily WP won.

Enjoy the wedding and don't chow too much cake.

Ja, know that feeling. Our company always has it's Year End party the Saturday evening before the Stellies Cycle Tour.
