Rode the fairy garden yesterday. Fun and interesting bits. Wow it's dense in there. Still a hoot riding Tokai after all these years. Big ups to Mark and Deon for all their efforts.

Wasn't there a large amount of money set aside for trail work at Tokai? Any movement on this?

..and some cool plans to complete the network of trails with a dedicated climb and a few others to connect dead ends and maybe even an enduro line too. Project should start early next year.

There should be a 160k allocation from CTCT money to Tokai this year but we don’t know if the rumors we’ve heard of 50% being spent further south is true or not, not until SANParks responds to our queries next year. So far the info we’ve been shown says the rumors could be true. Worse still, WHERE the work was done is even more worrisome due to the levels of crime where these trails are situated.

Our pickle is that despite being last in the queue for the funds, we have graciously agreed to sharing the other 50% with the north to pay for contractors to maintain trails out there, which could mean we’ve lost the full budget. Will be looking for answers that hopefully clears this all up. Right now we cannot say for sure.

Glad you enjoyed FG. More wheels is what it needs now.. and rain!

I will be so excited if that rut is fixed - I was terrified of that thing...

I broke a previous bike on that log before the fires.

Hi boys and girls

In riding the trails the past couple of months, the state of some trails and the jeep track is not in good shape.  As a fairly regular rider (who bought some land there - lack of skills! :whistling: ), I've decided to raise my concerns with Sanparks in early January 2019.

In doing so, I sent an e-mail to the section ranger and her boss with my concerns (jeep track / overgrown trails / safety. She did acknowledge my e-mail with the undertaking to revert. When she did not respond, I sent her a further e-mail (I do not go away easily :w00t: ) on Monday after riding Tokai on Sunday. Included a couple of pics (jeep track as well) in the email.

I arranged to meet her this morning at Tokai - had a cordial discussion. Understand from her that there are plans - will have to see and wait. I came away from that chat that there is an acknowledgement of the concerns - will wait and see how it will be addressed. If you have concerns, please raise it with them and maybe  , just maybe there will be some urgency to deal with the issues.

Yeah, Deon, Mark & Tim have been fighting that fight for ages, now. Short story is that Parks had promised Tokai MTB funds for trail maintenance and building, which would have funded the work that needs to happen, as well as opening My Roots again. That should have happened by Dec last year.

BUT. The funds that were earmarked for Tokai, were used by Parks on another loop to lay boardwalks, on a sector that sees 3 riders per month / week vs Tokai's 1,300 per day at the peak.

So - no funds, no work.

Cool Myles - as riders, we need Sanparks to hear our voices / complaints - without our support, Deon and Co fight a losing battle

Absolutely. I shudder to think what would have been the case WITHOUT Deon, Mark and Tim butting their heads up against the wall that they seem so happy to laze behind.

I just don' tthink they care, tbh. Based on years of involvement with the cause.

BTW - still angling for more volunteer builds, and I have a feeling that it's just a matter of time before they commence again. :P

Mark nearly took me and another rider out a few meters ahead of me, in he's bakkie a few weeks back.

I'd like to think that him and Deon are on completely opposite scales, Deon you get a smile a wave and he makes sure he gives enough space, with Mark the rider ahead of me had to ride off the track and uncleat.

I've met all 3 in person, but my meetings with Mark have only been unpleasant.

Mezzo wtf. Again WTF. You go and have a jol at Tokai and come here and anonymously slag off someone who has devoted hours of his life to allowing you to do that for free. Mark is on the Hub as you should know. Such gratitude...
