Transaction references are vital for any payment system.  Do not know why ABSA do not provide it. So easy, then for example you could send the reference in a USSD request using your phone to the ABSA system, to verify the payment. This is basic stuff.

I have developed a system for spaza shop traders etc, and this is how I did my system, more or less.

The account number i gave him was intentionally incorrect and does not exist and cannot be loaded on the ABSA site.

While he was convincing, who will part with 27k on a bike without actually seeing it

You'll be surprised.  I've previously sold 2 bikes without the people seeing them.  Guys were in JHB and I was in Cape Town.  It all worked out well.

Such fraud is everywhere here in ZA.

Simple solution, tell the seller you need a few days for the payment to clear / reflect, check your account to see the moola is there before releasing the goods, simple. Never take a deposit slip or payment advice (or SMS) at face value.

Ja we too. In the Free State a mans word is his word. I apply this to people from anywhere in SA.I trust my fellow human beings.I have purchased three bikes here. Value of over R100k. Never viewed one of them. I must also admit that I did ask a few hubbers to check the one out. Not because I suspected foul play but rather because it was a moerse bargain and a full carbon mtb, just wanted a fellow hubbers opinion.

P.S. This farmer boy is a prime target for scammers.

That is pretty impressive - pretty jacked up scammers - would be funny if that account number actually belonged to someone

What are the chances to ask admin to have a seperate thread for all the security tips, but limit the access to this thread to people who have ex more than 50 posts to their name. So that the scammers do not see the tips.

Ah. Madam Speaker, The Hon Member moves for an amendment to the immortal Rouxtjie Act.
