He is a big Contador fan, and I think yesterday was a decisive moment in his career. So maybe just dealing with that still.

As a fan it must be sad to see Contador as a shadow of his old self.

No not all, knew it was a long shot for him to win the Tour but appreciate his hunger to still race. Thats a great attribute for any athlete.

Not dealing with anything to be honest, every athlete career comes to an end.

Its how things work or we would still be seeing Eddie Merckx winning classics and Tours.

Was that not cries of joy?

He seemed to think he had won the stage[emoji15]

Imagine being on top of the world for 10s then down below the cement. Still an incredible ride by him on that stage.

before yesterday i was actually excited at the Aru prospect.

i was really hoping he would put up a good fight making the tour more exciting.

now, after attacking in a most ungentlemanly fashion i'm upset it was Porte that went down instead of Aru

Astana are known for pulling moves like that.. not the first time and won't be the last time.. hell Vino even attacked his own team mate.. so that he took that over to Astana is no surprise..

I think its safe to say that Astana could quite possibly be the most disliked team in the pro peloton.

Uran had two gear options available 39-11 and 53-11

I know how that feels on a MTB. Rear derailleur cable snapped. Doing a 2km 8% climb gets interesting.

Yeah, Berto had it all set up with two of his teammates ahead so he could bridge and attack very effectively from that platform

He remarked that 'the legs were not there'

End of an era, most likely

Sadly, for some the time to raise children and start a coffee or cycling shop comes earlier in their careers than others.

Or he could become a DS. That would be interesting.

On more annoying topics, how is it that Michal 'Beast from the east' Kwiat can sit for hours on the front, yet Landa and Nieve just disappeared after a short pull. Same happened on the Plank of the Good Daughter. Next Sunday will be the main test.

Think it was more a timing thing. Kwait was pulling at "tempo" pace, once he sat up, they GC guys attacked and Lands and Nieve couldn't hold that intensity. Don't underestimate that Landa character....

I hope you right. Been eyeing Landa and not seen much when it counted thus far.

I was already underestiming him before the team pick, tbf. Seems to do much better chasing his own agenda.

Today was brutal and FDJs gamble to resque Demare backfired spectacularly!

attachicon.gifbrutal.jpg

5 DNFs

7 OTLs

would they reinstate all the timecut riders if requested? It's not like they were sitting around, the oke is sick and dragged himself through two mountain stages to make the rest day - that's circumstances to take into account.

would be quite a non french decision by ASO to stick with it!

Landa has come off a very hard and well raced Giro. If you look at all the riders who have done both, they all battling when the pace picks up. NQ is one of them for example.

Landa is quality, just not right now after Giro. Nieve is doing what Nieve does, sit tempo and begs in his head no one attacks.

The level this Tour is a lot higher and this is evident in riders falling off who haven't elevated their game accordingly.

Contador is 34, won the tour at the age of 24, but really looks like glory is long behind.

Froome is 32 and still going strong.

Valverde is 37 and getting 'better' with age.

Suppose it's just like wine, you never know how something will improve with age.

I'm new at watching the TDF, my second season and enjoying more and more...

I did not know about the "ethics of attacking when Yellow Jersey has a mechanical" rule...WHAT?

I thought it was a great move by Aru  until the contaminators expressed their disappointment. If Aru had a mechanical, would the rest wait for him?

Sorry, but just an ignorant outside view...
