What does that mean ?

If a hubber post " Dibs " to an advertisement does it mean hands off ?

Does that preclude other hubbers to make an offer ?

My rant comes from an experience where I saw an ad and was interested in the bike but before I did anything there was a " dibs " on the post so I stayed away.

I kept going back to the add but never saw a "sold" message.

So after weeks I approached the seller and lo and behold the bike was still for sale.

At least a " dibber " should post his withdrawal.

Or what say you ?

Dibs is a *** story, first with the money takes the goods.

I think when you sell something you start negotiating with the first person that shows a concrete interest in what you are selling. Let the others know there is someone else before them. If the first respondent doesn't quickly pay you, then the deal is off. Next please.

Dibs means nothing really. Its the first one that pays that gets the product. Even if I see someone say Dibs and I want the item I still message the seller saying I am interested.

In my world, dibs gives the buyer 12 hrs to pay

After that, the privilege and entitlement that comes with this claim forfeits.

I AM going to go there: How does this work then? Why 12 hours? What possibly occurs during this highly specific time period?  If someone has the time to browse classifieds, then surely they have the time to conclude a simple EFT transaction?  The only possible delay I can think of is if a buyer does not have the cash to pay at that point in time.  My response to that is TOUGH.LUCK.SUNSHINE.  Give me a break - you either pay up, or shut up - there is no moral or ethical code here.  If someone is selling something, and you got the cashmoney, then you get the stuff.  Simple

That's how I roll

You choose your own method

There is no universal application of dips

Why the angst? ????

Dibs, SHOULD mean hey I want this, but dont have to time to make contact with you via your chosen method of communications.

If you as the seller then dont hear from said person with 12 hrs (aka Dale), then you say in YOUR add, still for sale.

BUT, it is all about communication. Nothing worse than a seller that does not pay attention to their add. Nothing worse than a seller that does not stick to the agreement.

AND rating's. If someone says Dibs its mine, and then does nothing, rate that person as such.

I was keen on a indoor trainer - asked the seller if I could have first option, but needed to look at the viability of it. Then in the morning I withdrew the offer. Seller was fine with it so everything was hunkydory.

This was merely the state of the common law before it was codified into law by the passing of the "Trading of goods on the Hub Act: Routjie Act 1000 of 2012"
