Considering that Joel and Co. have proven how treacherous the Cape Epic is, I, in my official capacity as Technical Skillz Director for ALL the top teams, I have issued the following Safety Apparel Directive. This Directive will be applicable from tomorrow's stage.

Below is an image of me testing out the said safety apparel.

The African sun is hot today

And some ice bath recovery

Cooling the core down as quickly as possible also speeds up recovery

the rest of the pitstop teams not doing to bad

I was only ever a temporary draft into Pit Stop to ride with Conway. Good team though.

Conway and I were a last minute partnership for 2016.

Some more from Kaufmann: 'We were in the chasing pack for most of the day, so we are very happy with the podium finish. We chased all day and in the final few kilometres we just kept passing people. I think Nino and Matthias looked very tired at the end and we came past for third.'

There you have it from the pros - a very tough stage

12:06

Kaufmann: 'It was rocky and sandy all day; a very hard ride. And it was full gas from the start. There was just no let up.'

12:05

Schurter: 'We pushed and pushed, but towards the end it was just very tough riding. We pushed as hard as we could, but it was a hard finish.'

12:04

Platt: 'Tough. Pfffff. Super tough. Pffffff. It was tough.'

12:04

Fumic: 'That was very good, very very good. We had a great run. Our plan was to get to the front and stay there; that worked very well for us today. Nino was pushing, Susi was pushing, but we were able to push harder. We were lucky with Jaro crashing, but that happens.'

Matthias Stirnemann in the ice bath. Much-needed after loads of heat on the course

Did he pee in the water. Looks suspiciously yellow.

Anyone a little bleak that the "live updates" have now basically stopped that the men are finished. Only thing I have seen is from the ladies team support teams. :cursing:

Beyond annoying

Apparently ladies are heading to finish. Suss & co still leading. Spitz has crashed twice. First one that says she needs more skillzzz gets a 30 day ban.

Kulhavy: 'I'm feeling good. The crash was unfortunate, but nothing serious. I'm very happy with our ride today, I feel it was a good performance. We are both enjoying the racing.'

12:01

Sauser: 'It went very well for us today. Jaro had a crash just towards the end and at first we were worried that his rim was broken, but it was only a broken valve in the end. We didn’t have a strategy; our plan was simply to get to the front and stay there. That way we can dictate pace and make the others think harder about what they need to do.'

Chopper overhead again as the leading women head for the Hermanus High School finish

Jeez, the vagaries of MTB. Sauser/Kulhavy looked poised to strike when the latter got a puncture and crashed. Spitz/De Groot looked set for a dominant performance after their Prologue win ... and then Spitz crashed

Suss and Stenerhag on they way into the orange jerseys

We're hearing that Spitz had a big crash - on rocks and then down a bank

You are being bloody disrespectful to people that have spent months preparing for this. Physically, mentally as well as technically. As usual, you are TALKING a big game.

lol dude...I'd be willing to bet half the okes riding don't know the in's n outs of setting up their suspension correctly. Even most of the "trail" riding okes I ride with don't know what the LCS or HSC does on their fork. Hell, I'm not even totally sure.

Most of those okes have had their bike setup by a shop and ride it that way because the shop set it up like that, NOT because that is the best setup for their personal riding style.

If pointing out that someone is deficiencies or mistakes is disrespectful ... eish then what kind of a world are we living in where progress will be slow to non-existent :(
