As for Pogačar, second-place today means he now has the rare and remarkable honor of making the podium in all five monuments. The only other rider to do that in recent years is Philippe Gilbert.

I hope all the power meter companies take a good hard look a their products. It was the number one failing device on this course, yet the consumer pays top dollar and gets sucker patched at checkout. Wait till Trump finds out, there will be ***! 😜

Not sure but I believe this ‘unwritten’ rule originated with le Tour and it is actually that the yellow jersey does not get attacked when he has a mechanical. If held up by/or has a crash he is also not attacked. So, it doesn’t apply here IMO.

 

Actually, it should be the other way around. Pogi’s watts/kg is king in the mountains. I think the cyclo-cross and MTB’rs with their superior bike handling skills aught to be able to drive the pace in the descent or other technical bike courses to their advantage. If Pogi crash due to a lack of skillset trying to follow them/or under pressure from them behind him – they should be allowed to drive home that advantage where it suits them.

It’s racing.. and at their level mistakes must be punished..

Yeah MvDP looked the more in form. But small margins (Pogi mistake). Seems roles were reversed from Flanders where MVDP had seemingly nothing left in that 4 man chase.

Podge may have been "obliged" to wait for MvP if the roles were reversed, because MvP was the race reigning champion, but I can't see that MvP needed to wait for Podge.

In any case, MvP was always going to beat Podge if they entered the velodrome together anyway 🙂
