Power Meters?

Hi Everyone,

I am on the market for a power meter but there seem to be so many options out there? I really do not have 20k to drop on a training tool.

Any recommendations for something under 9k?

Stages seems to be a popular choice for users here

Depending on your crank type, the price will vary

Slightly more than 9 big ones

If you have a Shimano crankset (Hollowtech II) then check out www.4iiii.com. $399 - $599 depending on your groupset.

Sorry I should have said its for the road!

Currently running Shimano 105's

For $399 you can buy a left-sided only 105 crank (4iiii) with the PM pre-installed. No sending your existing crank in to wait for it to be installed. The only problem is that you have to order from the USA/Canada - and any problems need to be shipped back to them. For me it's worth the risk of paying a lower price.

Battery is a CR2032, and lasts for about 100 hours. My first battery lasted me 109 hours.

Calibration is easy - rotate cranks a few times, right side at 12 o'clock and then press "calibrate" on your head unit. Takes seconds to complete.

Have a look at Flavero be pro pedals. I bought the left side only version in Europe for around R7500 (it comes with a matching dummy right pedal). The two pedal option was still way cheaper then the Garmin or Powertap pedals. I think they do have a dealer in SA.

Unless you're looking for things like pedal power balance or focused on very specific from start intervals then the stages is perfect.

I've had SRM/Quarq and now Stages... I have 175 SRAM and I interchange it between my road and MTB and works great (Despite what most people say you shouldn't because of Q factor bla blah, I've had no issues in the last 2 years)

100 hours is very impressive. My biggest gripe with stages is probably battery life as I have first generation so this is definitely worthwhile checking out

The hubs are cheaper than I expected. The biggest plus though is the amazing aftersales support through Bicycle Power.
