I think sometimes the hardest part about life is that "life carries on", no matter what. As I am sitting here I hear my son laughing and being happy. Brings so much joy to my heart.

 

To the OP, your dad has passed on. Condolences and healing to you. Now it will be your turn of being a dad. Great times ahead of making wonderful memories????????????????????????

My father is the reason I got into cycling in my teens.

He's since hung up the bike, but all those shared rides will be there.

 

Quite fitting seeing this today after getting home a couple hours back after celebrating BDF's life, and hearing how his brother Anthony spoke of his love for cycling. Coincidentally, I shared that ride with somebody who's only been riding a few months, and yes, we were right at the back of the bunch, but she loved it, and that was amazing to see.

Wow, I could feel that whilst reading it.

 

I am truly privileged looking forward to driving down to my Dad on Thursday to spend the holidays with my folks - the highlight always being our morning runs (something we've been doing since I was a teenager). At the same time I spent yesterday afternoon with my family getting our bikes ready for the holiday.

I too got into cycling because of my father. He was a competitive club rider and all the stories he told me about his riding days inspired me to try and do the same.

 

He has since hung up his bike and has taken zero interest in starting again. Dodgy knee (from a crash in the late 80s, refuses to see a physio) and a creeky back are his excuses. 

 

I hope to inspire my children in the same way one day.

 

Cheers to all the dads (and moms!) for inspiring their children to pursue this ridiculous sport we all love and cherish. Cheers!
