05:15 ride from Mouille Point - Chappies and back at 07:15 50km +-

Shower, eat and cycle to work buy 08:30!

I currently live in a convenient location so this might not help.

Point is, if you want to, you will!

You left out coffee...

This is what pops up in our news feeds from one of the Savage riders from our DC team this year:

Says it comes down to being prepared the night before and sticking to sleep pattern. I see he has slacked off lately, only starting at 05:00 :P

Not true. I often set my alarm for early in the morning, but then somehow someone presses the snooz button, making me sleep in...

What works for me is being part of a group that cycles in the morning. The group leaves the starting point at 4h45 sharp, if you are not there they ride without you.

On the mornings I cycle on my own its an epic battle not hit that snooze button one time too many...

That's my hood. He only rides that early to avoid the faster predators that come at Dusk. If I find him, I will wheelsuck and then drop him!

PureSavage here, have you ever......

When still living in SA commuting formed most of my time on the bike.  Then I could get up normal time of the morning do a 45-60 min (sometimes more) loop to work and cycle directly home.  I am not a morning person in general so battle to get myself in bed before 22:00.  However on the days that I could not ride to work due to appointments I would get up at 4:45 and join a local group at 05:00 (I was normally late and had to catch up) and do loops in the neighbourhood and would be back at 06:00 at home.

Since moving to Germany and with it came new environment, new climate, new work and all is out the door.  Here winter training is a challange so back to the IDT.  I managed to get a job that I am pretty much office bound and not seeing clients so that enabled me to commute to work again and actually now spend more time on the bike as I end up commuting in total 70+ km a day.  The culture however here is that most do their training in the afternoons due to the sun setting so late in the summer here.  You can get home at night by 18:00 and still do a three hour ride in sunshine here.

That could work. If you live in town and have other cyclists around... I live out in the sticks, ALL of my riding here is solo. I'm just not a morning person. If I put my mind to it, and I'm doing a longer ride over the weekend I'll be out early. But during a work week I cycle in the afternoons

I go ride after work as I already go to the gym in the mornings - only problem is the wind usually picks up in the afternoon, and in Paarl it gets hot! No one worth working for is going to hold you to it if you knock off at 5pm twice a week. It's much easier for me to working a 2+ hour ride in that way.

In winter my boss and I have an agreement, when the sun is shining, we go riding.

when I started working there were far too many ridiculously long working hour stints and weekends working ... ended up selling my bike and got back into it a few years later when we came back from honeymoon.

That's the problem with most IT related careers, we have some sort of customer service angle which makes it tough to just leave on time.

just to add ..... finding the balance with work and cycling is easy .... add kids to the formula and things get interesting.

Ja.. that is the tricky part..

Fortunately for me.. we are all working together around my cycling lol.. both kids in high school now..so that will make everything a lot easier.

Everyone has said they will all help and help mommy achieve her cycling goals.. I have the best family in the world.. [emoji4]

I'm opposite to most here...normally in early at work out out by 14h00 latest on the days I want to ride. Ride in the afternoon anything between 1h30 and 3h00 rides.

Other days it's just IDT in the evenings.

I've just accepted after many years of trying that I'm not a person that can train before work.

I doubt you will be in my situation with starting out in a new career!
