after watching a mechanic in a bike shop trying to loosen a crank and BB in a bike shop i am surprised there arent more broken cranshafts and carbon frames...at the time i wasnt concerned about the customers crank...i was more concerned the frame was gona break from the pounding with the hammer.

I've seen it too.

Which area are you in?

I weigh 110kgs so you should be fine.

I've never seen this kinda issue, and while no expert, I doubt it could be from normal fatigue or wear and tear. It's either a problem during manufacture, or mistreatment previously.

Not sure what bike shop you go to, but my one only uses love and persuasion on my bike :P

it's called percussive maintenance and is a perfectly valid technique

I love to use my power of persuasion too...

If in doubt give it a clout,

the more you doubt, the harder you clout...

This case is a rare one, like I said I have seen crank failures like this twice in 12 or so years - since the Hollowtech II cranksets came out.

If you look at the number of failures globally vs the number of cranks fitted to bikes then it is a VERY small ratio...Not a reason to doubt or steer clear of Shimano cranks.

Is it the same with the Kuga's?  :whistling:
