So of the current 9 listed projects, exactly ZERO have to do with cyclist safety?

Exactly and no more new recruits because you may get killed.

I trust you wanted a comment from me?

Isn't it the Table mountain bike cycling club formally known as PPA? The money is now been reassigned to salaries / overhead - so all services to cyclist will be reduce.

It's concerning that with higher fixed overheads that membership fees HALVED from R7 million to June 2015 to R3.5 million to June 2016.

Somebody mentioned that many riders don't see the need anymore to join the PPA. Is that the reason for the decline?

Since this is a PPA thread, would I get some support from the hubbers if I start analyzing the PPA, their objectives, financials, etcetera? I could even try to get voted to their committee later this year, if you want.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of support on here, your biggest challenge though will be to get more than 3 hubbers to show up at the AGM  ^_^

Myself included - I am no longer a member and honestly can say have not missed it to date!

Would I like to ride this weekend funride - yes. But having SA TT champs next Wed in Wellington while not having a seeded number means I will not. Unfortunately the 99er which does not require a PPA seeded number I will also not do, as it clashed with SA road champs. So for this season the funride I would require a PPA seeded number for thus requiring been a member of PPA, I probably would opt out of - no need for PPA membership. Cycling still a shambles with 2 bodies!

  1. In any crash involving pedestrians or cyclists, the motorist to be presumed guilty until proven innocent

A bit of an issue for me, the vast majority of pedestrians I see on the roads are reckless. Just walking into (in order to cross) fast moving multi traffic, j-walking where it is clearly not safe, essentially just being reckless.

I have witnessed a pedestrian just run into a multi lane like this (At a pedestrian crossing that changes frequently to stop all the multiple lane traffic) on a rainy day. The moment he was hit, and was flying through the air, my heart sank ..... before he hit the ground I was furious and wanted to give him a good kick in the ribs while he was down. It just was not fair on the motorist with the way he came through multiple lanes, not allowing her any visibility or time to react, and then the emotional and financial burdens she had to carry after the incident.

A very scary observation, is that the school kids from the school up the road, have also started running into the traffic to cross the road...and they think it is very funny between themselves.

Did I also mention that there is a very sound foot bridge over the pedestrian crossing (Buitengracht street) I am referring to above!

Another factor regarding the high number of pedestrian fatalities, is that according to a radio snippet over the holidays, a very large percentage of these pedestrians were under the influence of alcohol.

To immediately hold the driver guilty until proven guilty does not seem reasonable to me, and I cycle / walk on the roads every day.

Has anyone seen what the funds are actually spent on? Its one thing to have an item on your budget but what are you getting for your money?

My point exactly!

"Isn't it the Table mountain bike cycling club formally known as PPA?"

But always remember the Cape Town MTB cycle challenge probable cost the Cycle Tour office - the excess money comes from road cycling not MTB cycle. MTB cycling is the drain on road cycling at several expenses be it road safety to road events. MTB cycling does not line PPA coffers - it only takes - kind of like the ANC and tax!
