So did my first ever mtb race on Saturday. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I made sure I started at the back of my batch so I wasnt in anybody's way. But as the ride progressed I even overtook quite a few people which I never thought I would do. I was polite and always asked if it was OK for me to pass on the right and if they didn't mind.

All in all a great first experience and I didn't come last like I really thought I would but came in the top half of the ladies.

Think I might even try another beginner race ????

Rode the BL bunch today and really enjoyed it.

The group rode well with quite a few guys taking turns and working together.

Pace was constant but no serious attempts at breakaways.

Held on in the front until the last 15km and then got dropped.

Pace just too highfor me.....

A good day out.

Don't understand why these organisers exaggerate field sizes. At the MTB prize giving yesterday, they were talking up a field of 8000 riders for today!  :whistling:

Barely 3300 finishers across both distances. Call it 4000 entrants (including DNF, those who didn't bother/were out of town/sick/etc)?

Don't think that all the results are up yet.

8k is wildly optimistic. Do not think we have any race in Gauteng other than 947 with more than 5k riders.

8000 might sound optimistic across both distances but not all who entered rode and also not everyone had chips particularly in the shorter distance where they rode more for fun than published result.

Nice work you guys I rode B but bronchitis kicked in round the 60km mark.. Yes that was me barking and trying not to puke up a lung . Couldn't eat or drink cos it was continuous .2h39 in the end , I'll take that anyday

I saw you coughing your lungs out at the start, and thought to myself "shame this dude never catches a break".
