It must have been the Karoo Koppies that unsettled everything, but by the time we dropped down the White Knuckle Downhill on Day 2 of the GZT this past Saturday, there was no denying the reality that a bossie was inevitable.

I cannot tell you how much comfort it is to ride with a pack of Kleenex - If I had not brought a pack, I would have traded my first born son without hesitation to avoid riding a further 3 hours squelching my bib into oblivion.

So my question to MTB Hubbers is this: What is the ONE thing you will not ride without, especially on long and remote rides?  I would rather dehydrate than be caught without TP

Lipice.

Can deal with sunburn, dehydration, will wipe with an arm warmer if I must, will steal others spares and food. But once my luscious lips go dry, its the worst thing ever.

2 cents... use Vicks instead

In an emergency a bit of earwax works well

Dip into that bib and grab a bit of chamois cream. Not only will it help moisturise those chapped lips, it will also stop you licking them and making them worse

Ha - I must have the biggest stock of Zambuc in the UK. Everybody has to bring me Zambuc when they visit. Even works instead of chamois cream in a pinch
