I have a similar one. Works great but the battery has died and does not take charge. Anyone know who sells replacement batteries at reasonable a reasonable amount?

There is/was a guy in Durban (? wrightlights) who sold me a 6 x 1850 cell battery (8.4V)  that did RASA plus a whole lot more.

Sportsworld used to sell them and the Batteries for R390, I will have mine repacked by Just batteries in Benoni.

Have they quoted you on the new battery pack as yet? Care to share what it will cost?

Are you keeping the same battery specs/type or going better?

We stopped selling them, because we extensively tested the Ryder Orion 1500 during our 5am SportsWorld MTB Rides. The Ryder is a far superior light, in battery life, quoted lumens and beam width. We now only sell Ryders (comes with Omnico guarantee).

But yes, the Ryder is double the price.

Conclusion:

If you want to use a bike light just for a year, go for the cheapie. If cycling is a long term love affair, go Ryder.

I had a similar one. Chinese clones. Works well as a spot. Ie it doesn't have a wide beam for night mountain biking. I gave it to a roadie friend for her bike she was happy to get it. It would work on a helmet for a spot in conjunction wide a wide beam on the bar but may be a bit heavy for that with the battery. Paid R400 from some guy in Randburg at the time

Even the lower lumen rated Ryder light are incredible value for money. Some of the lights are R250 and perfect for the average commute or ride.

Works well enough for the price....had mine for two years now. 4am winter rides around Pretoria no issues and used it in the winter months now in the UK as well.

Thanks for all the feedback.... I am still in 2 minds whether or not I should go for it or just wait a little and get the Ryder... I like stuff to work and work and work.... :D

I bought the generic type from a colleague, and the light time was lousy after a year. I then bit the bullet and bought from Extreme Lights. Much better light, and MUCH MUCH better light time and longevity (so far) on the battery. Yes, MUCH MUCH more money too, but rather than buy 2 or 3 cheapies, I decided on the more expensive solution.

those batteries failed after about 10 months, 2 of them !!

The lights he sold work well, I have the zoom light and the beam is better than the Extreme Endurance light imo.

I bought the Pyro 1000 and Pyro 2000 from Hannes in 2012.Still going strong with no issues.

Believe it or not i still have a Topeak Moonshine Halogen which I have used for caving

I ride with these Chinese lights, the batteries don't last. End up using it on half brightness pretty soon to make the light last a couple of hours.

The specs on the Ryder light battery from sportsworld look pretty good. I would be tempted to splash out on this one next time my Chinese battery dies.

bike addict has n big special on 1600lm light for under R1000.

Not sure about the brand.

Please post a link cause I do not see anything on their site regarding a decent front light for just under a grand....except the normal torch-like ones...

EDIT: found it....my page did not load properly
