Not sure about a standalone butcher, but the Checkers at Kyalami Corner is quite good.

Was there this morning, a bit of a "wet dog" smell hanging around so passed. Ended up shopping at the Checkers at Waterfall, nice selection and not bad prices. PS. They are out of Rib eye now

Will keep an eye a nose out for the wet dog smell in future. ;)

Haven't been to Waterfall, but Mall Of Africa also isn't bad. Though you'd have to be insane to go there now...

The fishmonger is very good there.

That's why we avoided the Pavilion this time of year, I would imagine it's madness there now.

Found a place that's a bit closer to home for angel fish - Ocean Kingdom Seafood Wholesalers. Will probably visit them after Christmas.

I given a “braai mat” as a gift by somebody. Like some rubber mat you put on the grid.

Anybody used this weird contraption before?

Never used one, but according to this it is, "Ideal for braaing marinated, sticky or delicate food like sosaties, ribs and fish, as well as smaller, fiddly food like vegetables"

My honest opinion? Cook it in a pot of water with a pinch of salt in. I've never had good luck with cooking it directly over the coals or wrapped in tinfoil. Either raw in bits or burnt in bits.

This^^

Why you would want to ruin a good meal, by spending the next 30mins, tonguing little bits of korn that’s stuck in every little gap in your teeth, is a whole different discussion.

Boil them in a pot till cooked, then roll them in a 50/50 mix of mayo and sweet chilli sauce, spice with your favorite braai spice and “brown” them on the braai, turning regularly to avoid burning....

Aah, I see what you do, cook them first. Then braai to add taste. OK, I'll give that a try.

Any advice on how to braai mielies?

Just put them on a hot fire and turn often.  Easy peasy.

So lekker on the braai and then add butter and salt.

Still one of my best goodies on the braai as a beer snack
