Help me to clarify my results

Hi I recently took part in a study where they recorder my ppo, vo2max and Functional Threshold Power. I have approximates of the results, the full results still need to be worked out. I want to know what do these numbers really mean and can I apply them to my training to better myself?

Here are the basic values they gave me:

 Your VO2max was approximately 68 ml/min/kg.

- Your PPO was 426 watts, giving a relative PPO (normalised to body mass) of 5.74.

- Your Functional Threshold Power (power output that you should be able to sustain during a 60 minute effort) is 312 W.

Thank You

Hi Andreas, a VO2max of 68 is pretty good. Who did the test for you? Your FTP is also very good. If I were you I would go see a coach, Erica Green is just down the road from you.

Sjoe those are very respectable figures.

The FTP, They say "should". How long did you do a FTP test for?

EDIT: Do you ride elite?

20 mins, I went 5 times. First was warm up then ftp and vo2max, second was warm up and vo2max, third time was warm up and ftp, fourth time was warm up and vo2max and last was warm up and ftp.

If your FTP is 312W (95% of your 20min avg power) then you should be seriously fast

If it's 312w avg for 20min then you should still be fast :-)

That also gives you 4.22w/per kg which is what the local Elites are pushing on avg if I remember correctly.

For TDF you'll have to double that

Your best bet on improving are probably to get a coach who can work with you.

I want to start riding elite.

Get a license and ride..... hang on for dear life..... rinse and repeat - you will know soon enough if you can manage to stay with the bunch....

Easy.... just do it...

Very respectable numbers.

I think top 5 at S.A. champs in individual time trail was like 350w ave last year?

You are young enough to make it count... from your numbers I suggest you need to get a proper coach and put the time into it -  if it is what you want to do - without a coach you might just spiral in the abyss of promise that didn't deliver.

If you make some good performances and you are lucky you could get picked up.

Unfortunately that's probably the only way - " its like that - and that's the way it is..." (since we are doing some quotes)

Pretty much what everyone has said here, your numbers are good.

If you want to race then go racing and see how you do.  Also consider a coach to help you improve.

Your PPO is the only thing that is low so if you want to race and are going to be up there in sprint finishes you will need to work on increasing the PPO

I would stick my neck out and say you need to lose 5-10kg to race elites.

Those numbers are good enough for VB, not so sure you'll hang with VA.
