If you want bling otherwise go for the GX upgrade at 5k.

The bike industry is going mad when you look at some of the 2018 prices

They're not going mad, they've gone mad a long time ago. Along with all the other manufacturers ans us...

My bicycle costs about twice as much as my bakkie in maintenance - and that's at 1/10th of the mileage of my bakkie! But hey... I keep getting back on my bike because you can't put a price on sanity and hapiness (or so I tell myself and my wife every time I have to fork out for something new).

And... it's GOLD!!!

I would love to know what performance difference there is between the Gold at R22000 and GX at R5k. I'm willing to bet very little.

Mainly a weight difference...and if you really think about it its not that crazy..look at what a xtr cassette cost..and look at what electronic mtb group sets cost..

That line of reasoning only works if you are prepared to accept that the XTR and electronic group sets are not also insanely priced.

well on 11 speed sram, the difference between XO1 & GX is well....nothing I could feel. The only time I could feel any difference was when riding a mates XX 1 and it was marginal at best. But it was smoother.

Am in for GX all the way now. Rather save the coin for better wheels and or fork, parts that make a tangible difference.

Well for me anyway.

As well as also accepting them as being necessary... at 1000 zar per 50g it is difficult for most average hackers to justify.

But if people are buying it, they will keep making it and charging for it...

Bike industry is sucking the hind tit dry, a bicycle worth more than an adventure motorbike or in the same ballpark??? I dont think so.

Stage race organisers also ripping the ring out of it, but kudos to them... supply and demand.

I personally would rather go away on a riding weekend somewhere than do an overpriced stage race, theres a whole list of positives and it probably works out cheaper too.

Granted you dont have the racing vibe but thats the least of my worries since Im nowhere near the top guys anyway.

Cycling will end up like golf in the next 3 years.

Reasons to get it:
1. You are in the top 1% of earners in SA

2. Showoff

3. Think it`s all about the bike and 200 grams is going to help your less than fit ass get up the hill faster...

4. Showoff

5. You already have the best/lightest wheelset & suspension money can buy

6. It came standard on the bike you bought.

7. Repeat the above

The ultimate reason to get it: I AM A PRO RACER AND NEED TO SHOWOFF! right...
