"Louis Meintjes (Dimension Data)

Meintjes hasn’t ridden the Giro before, but he did finish eighth at the past two Tours de France — evidence that he’s more than capable at this level. Meintjes is unlikely to outclimb the big contenders, nor will he amaze against the clock, but he’ll likely be thereabouts, staying within fighting for a place in the top 10."

I wonder which is more financial benefiting to a team, a Top 10 GC position (not podium) or a Stage win?

In terms of "getting their rider on TV" I guess a Stage win after a long break trumps finishing anywhere between say 4th and 10th overall.

It might be treason but I can't see LM winning a Grand Tour to be honest. What was his last win? 2015?

He should look for stage wins. His ability against the clock will always be a holding game at best and an problem at worst. He can hold on well and look comfortable but a slew of top 10 and 2nd paces in young rider categories aren't being converted into stage or GC wins even in the 1 week style races.

That aside.... can't it be tomorrow already!!! Bring on the best GT of the year.

Its the reality of the matter, not treasonous at all. Don't let emotions take over reason.

I am hoping he wins a stage or two, have a few bicycles prizes riding on it!

the stated long term mission of DDD is to get him on a TdF podium, and this year is building towards that with the Giro.

So i read that they want him to be at least top 5 GC this Giro

For that to happen he has to learn to attack!! I know Niro is the world's best wheelsucker (Apart from ME) but even he attacks at some point so LM has to learn if he wants anything close to a podium.

IMO DDD should focus on developing Ben O'Connor.

They should also not renew with Cavendish and his entourage, a lot of the DDD riders are out of contract at the end of the year..they will have to make smart choices for the future.
