I am probably not racing EA next year, but could be fun to do actually, still thinking we need to get the extreme triathlon back, Freedom Challenge, 100miler run and non stop dusi in a year

I agree... I have been looking at doing something like a blouberg to blouberg swim round robben island, straight into a massive gravel/tar road 350km ride icluding some trails around the peninsula and northern suburbs finished off with a rerun of the UTCT 100km route....

I reckon that would get a few hearts racing! (not rider#35... he thinks swimming is pointless - could change it to a paddle)

so there are plans to maybe incorporate a few other 100 milers gravel races into a series with some prize money.

That is rad... They should add 40km onto Attakwas and make it part of the series as well....

Attakwas is more mountains vs the other Gravel Grinders, which are main district roads, also Atta is less forgiving on the terrain too. I was on a Rigid fork but full gearded HTmountain bike & still crapped off racing it. Something else to consider as well the average rider completes the Attakwas in +- 7:30 hours, if you are gonna add 40kms on top of that, opening up a whole new can of worms.

I have done 4x Atta all on fully rigid SS... 3 of them finished between 6:35 and 7 hours.. It's demanding but then a grand Fondo race is meant to be...

Making things easier because the race is a bit longer is silly.

I think the 'average' mtb'er finished Atta in closer to 9hrs.... the guys riding 07:30 and under are probably a wee bit above average!

I do get what you're saying, but if it's a MTB/Gravel race there should be some debate and risk/reward as to bike choice. Having it 100% gravel road makes it obvious.

Those smaller climb around 300m ascent, I will manage, but that long one I am not sure about. Would love to give this a go, but def not anywhere near fit enough.

Need to make a plan to get that fit. I have 3 weeks free time, will see what I can do.

gonna try to prep for this. However with my lack of eagerness to train..... Will see how it goes.

Is there a closing time for entries?

the best commitment I found to work for me is to enter well in advance that way you commit & start the training. Doesn't look like there is a closing time for entries has been set yet.

swimming is the most inefficient form of locomotion possible.

just give me the date, I'll braai on the yacht whilst you flop around the bay
