Please explain to me how I should NOT be frustrated going to Navworld Cape Town to get a replacement strap holder (small little piece of rubber band on your strap) only to be told it needs to be ordered from Garmin JHB??? Really, I'm the only one breaking the strap holder on my Fenix so it is seen as a "specialist" part?

Nee man, not COOL.

So, shortly before 2 weeks of waiting is up I get the little loop for my strap. Asked to buy a spare.... Nope, no can do. Parts only allocated by Garmin to Navworld "as, when and by part number and specific number as needed". Time I think to give Garmin SA a bit of my mind, directly.....

Go back to NavWorld. They will send to garmin on your behalf at no cost. As long as you purchased it from them.

In theory yes

But given my current experience I would say cut out NavWorld if you can and deal directly with Garmin.

I am now in the process of replacing my Garmin 520 (which was out of warranty).

I started the process on 7th of January at Navworld and now going on 18 workdays later I am still waiting. (for a straight forward replacement request)

Big part of the frustration is the "zero fu&s given" by NavWorld - they cannot be more indifferent to this process even if they tried. Can't be bothered to answer any question with anyhting else than "We don't know", eventually got them so far to say "Phone Garmin yourself" which was basically the only useful thing I have got out of them these past 3,5 weeks.

Used to get great service from them in the past, but sadly I'm a fanboy no more.

Where is the built in obsolescence? I see iPhone 4’s still in use pretty regularly. iPads, still going, albeit slowly, since 2009 in many cases. Macs, strong like Russia .

Oh its there alright, you need to look a little harder.

Take an older iphone4 or even a few years old Macbook pro. Both are refused the latest OS updates because Apple says they wont handle them. At the same time app and software developers are forced to use the latest dev kits which (surprise surprise) require targetting the newer versions of OS.

See where this is going yet?

Unless you continue to use that iphone and macbook to literally make calls and type some emails then your device has been made obsolete.

I have experienced that with my own iphone, ipad and macbook pro. Its definitely real.

As Dgas said, Go straight to garmin in rosebank. I was there 2 weeks ago. Don't park where I parked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if their offices have parking for people coming to that building but I couldn't find it. I went up the ramp by their building entrance and parked in the mall parking and then had to walk a long way to get back to the building entrance. Next time I will park in the open parking on the right that I know as "the zone' parking. They will also courier it back to you afterwards free of charge.

Thanks All,

Is this the address.

11 Cradock Ave, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196

I know its probably an obvious answer but Navworld was so good that they worked on Serial Number so proof of purchase wasn't always needed. Did you need a receipt or proof of purchase?

Yes that is the address. The building is right by the entrance to the zone(if it is still called that) on the left hand side. As you are able to go up the ramp to the parking the building entrance is on your left. Think they 8th floor.

My watch was out of warranty so I never bother with a invoice but this was in the mail they sent me

To entitle a successful warranty repair, a valid proof of purchase is required.

Note that no proof of purchase received with repair.

Please see attached, fixed repair rate offer for service part replacement.

The service part replacement offered could be a new device or a factory overhauled device in non-retail packaging which complies with Garmin International's Quality standards.

Additional Remarks: black dot on screen

Please ensure that your payment reflects your Garmin JOB Number

So if you bought it "as new", but used, and got no invoice you are screwed.

Nice.......

So you bought second hand... if it was as new why did you not ask the seller for their invoice if it was "as new"?
