Eating a plant-based diet doesn't require a Ph.D in nutrition, nor does it require that you only eat lettuce.

My rant: I wanted to change to plant based firstly as an experiment as I have done with many diets, just to see how it goes, and also because I'm scared to death of all the health issues which are getting more and more linked to our typical western diet.

Everyone around me is on cholesterol meds. Too many people I know or hear about are getting nailed with cancer. Diabetes was something I'd never encountered. We all know that one 'but he was so fit & healthy' guy who dropped dead from heart disease.

I understand these are all generalizations and very much lifestyle influenced but I also believe more and more that diet is key to overcoming and preventing almost anything. Possibly more than meat, I have always thought its just disgusting how so much of what we eat these days is processed and riddled with compounds we can't pronounce nor understand why. I appreciate we're all-consumed by commercialism so there may be business logic, but no omnivore, carnivore nor herbivore should not be eating some of this rubbish. (and people complain when they're frequently sick and refuse to acknowledge whats in front of them..)

I also have a problem with the 'everything in moderation' or 'a balanced diet' sayings. We only think these things are so because of whats been drilled into our brains our whole lives. If nothing else, these (lets be honest - sensationalist and scare-mongering) documentaries have taught me is to start questioning 'truths' more. And the more I can learn, the better.

I agree with you on all points.

Do the research and see what the science says.

I get where you're coming from, Uni.

For me, the science is clear - a whole foods, plant-based diet is your best bet at sustained health, especially as you get older.

Perhaps you just need to make some small changes to your diet to get you on track. Something that might help with that is https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dr-gregers-daily-dozen/id1060700802?mt=8

Wayne - as a matter of interest: what is your blood type?

I am A+ and my health has improved over the last +_ 16 months of mostly plant based.

No eggs or dairy, very little meat.

Sorry I missed Friday due to work

......on the point that eating meat is cruel

Who says plants don’t have emotions and don’t like being grown in unnatural surroundings, farmed and slaughtered for consumption?

Years ago I read a book about plants and how they can actually react... In one of the experiments someone placed some plants in a room and had someone else physically damage one of the plants. They hooked the remaining plants up to some or other machine to check for impulses or whatever and then had some random people go into the room...when the person who damaged the plants entered the room the plants showed a reaction!

I used the "plants also have feelings" argument; until I was challenged...could I kill an animal, skin it, clean it and then cook and eat it...all of my own doing? No! A plant on the other hand I can do all that to without hesitation. TF or I'd starve to death :)

That explains a few things.....
