I think it was Susi who mentioned that the problem with backup teams is that if they can't keep up, they're not going to help you win. Maybe the cost of a second team is not worth the benefit they can provide.

I agree that this is a useless jersey to have... not to be funny but if we don't compare to the other teams (non-africa) then what is the use? there is very little of our local talent there or to put it another way... I think we have built a race that we cannot compete in... be it monetary issues or just plain skill. Also seems like the tough economy has let down the local riders in terms of getting a sponsor to be able to ride the Epic.

'Well done for being here guys, this little red jersey is going to keep the locals coming back every year despite being absolutely nowhere near the front.' Something for the locals to race for... but really it's just more hype in an already trumped up hype card. I'm loving watching the top Euro guys race. It is absolutely insane how efficient and how fast they are
