I see the Lezyne gps computers get good reviews. Some rate them better than the Garmin Edge25 and has all the basics you really need excluding power.

Data gets transferred from the unit to the Lezyne app on your phone and from there onto Strava.

The micro is about plus minus R1500 and the big one is plus minus R2500.

The Lezyne (I've got the 2017 Super GPS) is definitely not bad, for the price it is absolutely packed with features.

Live tracking, routing, Strava live segments, can connect to Bluetooth and ANT+ sensors.

A lot of the software issues have been fixed recently, but it is still not perfect.

It doesn't sync with Vitality though, and I assume not Momentum either.

And it uses their own mount which is not compatible with anything else.

Also, just keep in mind that while it is a lot less expensive, it doesn't come with any sensors included for the R2500.

I have the Lezyne Super GPS and the Garmin Edge 25. Must say I'm not that impressed with the Garmin. Battery life is crap, takes a long time to find GPS signal and it is not very accurate when it comes to GPS tracking distance and route.

The Lezyne and Garmin are the same price with heart rate monitors included. (R2800) But I have heard the Lezyne HRT monitor is rubbish. So rather get just the unit and buy a Garmin Ant+ or Bluetooth monitor separately.

If I must choose between the two, the Lezyne wins hands down and the best GPS under R3000

I use a non name brand computer my mother in law sent from Germany. It had a €1 price tag when I got it. It still has a wire connected to the fork and a magnet on the spokes.

It tells me my speed, average speed, ride time and distance. For some reason it tells me every 60km that I need a service. I just ignore it.

It has no GPS, but I know where I'm going and if I want to upload my route somewhere to compare with others, my phone does that for me.

There is also no heart rate option, but then again, I don't need an electronic device to tell me how much I am suffering, my body does that for me.

which is why so many have asked WHAT does the OP want the computer for ....

for commuting it is nice to record the rides.  As I am tracking my health it is more than nice that it also records my heart rate.

When doing weekend rides I like to record the route, and data about the route - especially when it is a new route.

Do I "need" a 520 .... uhm ja .... VERY nice to be able to track my progress and to understand why what is happening out on the trail ....  Seeing both my cadence and heart rate on a single screen has certainly helped me to better apply my energy, to get further without hitting the wall so to speak.  But once you know and understand the underlying factors you certainly dont spend all your time staring at the screen ..... so for ME, very glad I spent that money !

I just started using my Polar M450 to check running distance by putting it in my back pocket but it seems to be under reading by about 10%. Any body else experienced this, could it be because its in my pocket?

I have a 450 but only use it for cycling and it is very accurate.

How do you know it’s under reading, compared to ?

I would say if it’s covered in your pocket it might not be accurate, it’s designed to work mounted on a handlebar in the open.

What is the cheapest option for:

HR strap, Speed & Cadence sensor

GPS

Power - NB for proper training

So far it seems like Second hand Edge 500.

Any other options one can look at?

I compared it to distance from my car but then realised the car goes the long way round the corner but running you cut the corners.

This is a very late reply, but I'm doing research into computers now myself and found this Garmin Edge 25 to be quite appealing - however it seems like I won't be able to use it - since I see you cannot have your Heart Rate displayed on either of the 2 screens. Is this true?

I see many people not happy because you cannot have HR along with any other data (on the custom views) so do you have to toggle through the menu whilst riding to get to the HR monitoring? Suppose now you're actually using the HR wireless device from Garmin.

Anyways that said, I also found that there is a hack for it; http://www.edge25.net/ But I don't feel comfortable paying so much for a product that seemed to be intentionally designed not to have that feature.

Wondering if there are any similar products in the same price range.

Sounds like this was specifically designed for a Landrover
