Heal up well Lion.

My thoughts are with you and your loved ones who are seeing you suffer, and have to carry the burden of life with you incapacitated.

Heal fast Flemish...

As a side note, you can flag the section as dangerous on Strava, and it gets removed. There are sections that just aren't worth taking a risk for.

Now I'm not here to start a war, but IMHO there are NO segments or anything to do with Strava worth taking 'a risk' for, especially on public roads. It's social media. It's like dying while trying to get the 'winning' shot hanging sideways off the cable station to win 'extreme ironing' on Facebook.

Heal up FL... super yucky for all involved, including the bakkie guy.

There are pics of the incident on our local FB forum. The position of the vehicle is very odd, looks like the driver saw him, tried to quickly cut the corner in front of him, and not realizing his speed, caused the collision. Definitely driver error, and my opinion not a case of 'Oh I didn't see him'! I don't think Tijl would have even had the slightest chance to touch brakes or take evasive action. This disregard to cyclists safety infuriates me.

Heal up buddy, thinking of you all the time!

Seeing the pics now, the bakkie definitely tried to sneak a right turn in before Tijl and totally misjudged the speed he was coming down at... the crazy risks people take in their cars everyday to save a stupid second or two.

Hope he can make a full recovery. Thoughts with Jo and all their loved ones

Might be a good time to revive the "Just One Second" Campaign started by Dangle a few years ago...

Speedy recovery Flemish Lion.

The problem is that they take no risks. In motorists minds (conscious or more likely sub-concious) it is a free option.

If they make it, they have saved 5 seconds and if they don't, the other guy gets hurt.

They instinctively know that they are protected from physical injury  and any consequence to them of killing or injuring another road user does not enter into their mindset.

Sorry to hear, and so close to home.

Good luck with the recovery, hope it all goes well, and that it is a smooth road to recovery.

As for the segment itself, guys shoot through that intersection at over 75kmh, but would be grumpy if cars were doing 75km/h on their quiet suburban street outside their house.

Bad news. Hope Tijl is OK. And his little 'uns and Mrs T are coping.

Don't assume he was doing a Strava segment, he was apparently on his MTB on the road. And anyway, what diffs would it make.

You're writing as if motorists are a completely different species.

Virtually all cyclists are motorists. Ease up on the generalizations.

Oh course Eddy isn't saying ALL motorists, read the message he is trying to bring across.

And besides, when SOME cyclists get behind the wheel of their cars, SOME of them drive like morons.
