Canyon CF SLX 8.0 vs BMC RM01

Bit of a one sided opinion poll here!

Just to weight the odds a bit, I'd go with the BMC.   I have the previous generation RM01 and absolutely love it!  It's comfortable, fast, responsive, agile and has really solid predictable handling.  There is honestly nothing on it which I don't like.  I've had it for years now so can testify to the quality of it.  The paintwork is still gleaming and it looks new.

For all the people saying Canyon - how many of you have actually ridden one?  I think Canyon have done fantastically well with their marketing and they've created a very desirable brand, but I doubt all that many people have actually ridden them.  I'm sure they make amazing bikes and I'm not trying to put them down at all, I just find it odd how everyone flocks to a brand they haven't tested themselves.

For me, BMC

He was asking BMW or Audi, and then you come here and say he should buy a Toyota....

Just part of the service.

Remember the rule. If someone asks between A,B and C. Always suggest RB57-J

@the OP. Canyon.

I have had many BMC bikes, and their frames are solid. The only frame I had issues with so far was the Giant.

Nothing wrong with BMC frames (they make beautiful frames), I was just being silly hence the italic font.

If there is 3 things you dont tease Moridin about, 3: White Oppression, 2:Trump and 1: BMCs in that order :P

Now now! It is time we have another ride and brekkie, so that I can sort you out! Not the ride part, the sorting out part will come after the ride. I suck at the riding part.  :whistling:

Honestly, I love the Canyons also. Would love to be able to get the Dual Sus Canyon. My son wants the Canyon top end roadie frame, as if he thinks I am somehow connected to the Rupert family fortunes.

I have the women's specific CF SLX Ultimate.  Totally love it.  Go for the disc option though.

I looked at Canyon, Spaz and Crackendale (both brands I've ridden before and loved their bikes) and the bang for buck is just that much better on the Canyon.  Even similarly specced on the other brands, they have a weight penalty in comparison to the Canyon.

The bike sizing was pretty straight forward and surprisingly sized on a smaller bike frame than what I usually go with but it feels like the bike was made for me.

Handles great on the descents and climbs like a machine (11-32 cassette can take most of the credit though)

I for have not ridden a BMC, Trek, Spez, Giant, Pina nor Canyon. I walk into any of those shops locally, and to perfectly honest, none of them (except for Spez) are willing to help out. Either not the size, or the spec, or the willingness to help. Riding in their parking lot is not really going to tell me anything is it.

Yes maybe not all shops are like that, but in my experience I can’t test drive any of them in any case. So I can just as well go for the one who’s marketing machine corners me best and whose value is undisputed.

Go for the Canyon. I haven't ridden the BMC, but I have the Canyon Ultimate CF SL and it's an awesome bike. Got the bike new direct from Canyon (Germany) for the same as just the groupset (Ultegra) and wheelset (Mavic Kysrium) would've cost me in my local SA bike shop. The SL is much better value than the SLX as well. And the geometry and position is perfect for local 100km races. The Endurace is more comfortable for the longer 100 MILE races that are more common in Europe and the US.

BMC has disc brakes and carries the weight penalty, 8kg vs 7.2 for rim braked Canyon. I suppose it depends if you want discs.

This is what you want... You get your discs and those wheels AND it's lighter than the BMC. No comparison

The Endurace CF SL 8.0 is 7.5kg and that has discs... the SLX will be even less. If that's a penalty, sign me up! oh... the penalty is the price....

In 2 years time there will be more Canyon's on the road than Bianchi's.

Edit: It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's losing the exclusivity it once had.

The OP was comparing the disc BMC to the rim braked Canyon

I own a Ultimate CF CLX 8.0 DI2 and I absoluteley love it. You wont regret it! Rode a spez tarmac before and I am not sure I'll go back. I have a L with rim breaks and comes in at 7.7kg with bottle cages, pedals and garmin mount.

Just order a derailer hanger when you order the bike. Thats the only real thing you will not get easily locally when it breaks.

Fantastic bike with perfect spec!

Nice aggressive position...  Why not saw it off?

Interesting, I am shopping for a Canyon at the moment and had nothing to compare the quoted weights with so I decided to weigh my 15 year old, Aluminium bike on Sunday.

With bottle cages, pedals, Garmin and Hope light mount, it came in at 7.5kg albeit not with Aero wheels.

As a matter of interest what is the difference in price? Apologies if i missed this somewhere in the thread. I'm keen on the Canton and have worked out with current exchange rate it'll be just under 60k. What does the BMC retail for?
