ichnusa Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I would suggest a 27.5" wheeled bike for you. Investigate and phone around for stock. Then.drive through to CT to pick up. Worth the effort for sucjh an investment
Boerklong Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I live just outside Worcester. I ride a Chinese Carbon HT.Buy the Trek
slickjay007 Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 http://cyclelab.com/scott-scale-910-mountain-bike-2017/ Scott Contessa could also be an option. Well spec'd for the price.
kosmonooit Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Given that bikes halve their value once they roll out the door, that means good deals on use bikes can be found, but it requires a thorough technical assessment and also there is some chance / risk factor (ie hidden issues such as cracked frames) ... Also be careful about trusting 'dealers' too much .... they will often take advantage of a gullible person. If you can make it into the mother city I would say go see or contact Jayson at Olympic Cycles
parrcat Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Trek all the way! After Giant they are the biggest bike manufacturer in the world - much bigger (and better in my opinion) than Merida. Not sure about Trek being bigger than Merida who not only make their own bikes, but also Specialized (they own 49% of Specialized, Trek's big rival in the USA) and many other brands. It makes over 2 million bikes a year, has factories in Taiwan (1), China (3) and Germany (1) and is one of the biggest companies on the Taiwanese stock market. Around 99% of Trek bikes are made for them by other companies, in China mostly.
Traveler Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Without a doubt Trek, and they stand by their lifetime warranty. Apart from Emily, do not forget Rachel Atherton.... After what I've recently heard about a Merida, I will not touch a new one with a barge pole. Always though they were value for money bikes, but now I do not trust them for one moment. Will never recommend a Merida to anybody again.
madmarc Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Your size = 27.5" I know a lady sames size as you who initially got a 29er, she found it very difficult to handle, changed to 27.5 with same frame size and its perfect for her. Personally i would vote for TREK - But nothing wrong with Merida or Giant - go for the one giving you the best bang for your buck
Andrew_Smith Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I vote Trek too. Bit underrated here in SA, but massively huge in the USA. Superb bikes!
lechatnoir Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 "trek is not a very known name..." I guess all those times Lance won the tour De France on them was kept pretty quiet.. Yeah, and those no-hopers Fabian Cancellara and Jens Voight...
Marichen Posted May 10, 2018 Author Posted May 10, 2018 Emily Batty rides a Trek. She had done pretty ok in getting good results on a Trek. When buying there are many shops that offer test rides on their demo bikes. Have a look in the classifieds here as their are many bargains for higher specced bikes for the price of a new lower specced bike.Thank you, went for a ride on both bikes and it really helps
GaryvdM Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 but we know that sometimes, under the skin, all was not what it seemed and that some of his "Treks" were re-branded Litespeeds.....TIL ... http://www.velonews.com/2009/03/explainer/the-explainer-looking-beyond-the-downtube-sticker_89392
