I'm aware of a documented link between chlorine & elevated cholesterol, but I think the link between high carbs & elevated cholesterol could be more significant....

Don't underestimate chicken, and animal products in general, when it comes to cholesterol.

Very true.

Whilst using google to find information is not quite the same as citing books by Dr Spreen and Dr. Price, albeit their hypothesis/research might not have been complete :)

In the majority of people dietary cholesterol has a negligible effect on serum cholesterol.

 

(General comment, you will get the 'genetic' exceptions though.)

Am 70 and always had good levels which went sky high after traumatic occurrence .

Same with my sugar and got psoriasis which is unheard of developing after 40 so don't underestimate stress as factor

What tests did they do to make sure it was psoriasis and not shingles? Just curious not questioning the correctness of the diagnosis - seems to me you have a bunch of auto immune responses concurrently - hope you are recovering/ed.

2006 I was in the pool 5 days a week for 6 months, still went to the gym a couple of days a week for more than a year after that .... NO ill effects on my health. This in a gym where you breath in all those fumes .....

I know it sounds ridiculous ... even my partner told me not mention my theory out there.

 

But I don't know how many swimmers might be receiving medication for high cholesterol? And maybe it was never a genetic predisposition, but brought on by the high chlorine content in pools ....

As a coach who swam extremely competitively for over a decade up to 6 hours a day, I can tell you that is extremely unlikely. What I can tell you is that for a period of time I learnt to bake and in three months my cholesterol went up to a low level of concern because I was eating a lot of crap. In two months my cholesterol was back down to negligible just by cutting out the cakes. Absolutely true story.

 

If not food related, age and genetics are far more likely. (in my non-medical opinion)

Holy fuckballs the pseudoscience bull**** on this thread is next level.

Given I spent 5 or more hours a day in the sun for years, in a chlorinated pool, without sun cream, I am dreadfully surprised that I have experienced no health issues at all other than the dragon faces the full moon in the cauldron of the summer and ige ksb the & ddddddddddddddddddddd

talk about a long shot. by that reasoning, based on the nearly yearly death from heart attack of an argus rider, riding the argus causes heart attacks.

You have it wrong... I am pretty sure it was because of clincher tyres. How many of these unlucky souls used tubbies?

True. I quoted the numbers on another thread, not going to repeat it here. I have the inherited type of elevated cholesterol. Statins improved the numbers somewhat, but not enough. Extremely low fat diet did nothing. Low carb, by cutting all processed and baked stuff, and eliminating grains from my diet, improved the numbers by a further 15%. My diet is 99% meat, fish, poultry, eggs and full fat dairy, vegetables and limited fruit. Try to eat fresh, free range and if you can afford it, organic.

BS. Loading up on saturated fats improves your cholesterol numbers?! You should get in touch with researchers; you’re a walking, talking rebuttal of decades worth of accepted nutritional science.

Keep questioning advice and develop something that what works for you.  The sooner we accept that most problems aren't solved by a one-size-fits-all approach, the better.  We tend to be brainwashed by the people who are making serious pots of money from telling you that you will die if you don't take these pills until you die!  And many would say the very last people you should be trusting on this type of debate is the pharmaceuticals.  After all if you prove them wrong you are potentially destroying a massive future annuity flow up to the end of time.

Baked goods, and processed foods in general are high in trans fats which are far more serious for cardiovascular health than normal saturated fat. It is really not as simple as fat being bad although all saturated fats will contribute to insulin resistance leading to diabetes and eventually, again heart disease.
