I recently bought a Isuzu XRider 4x2. My first bakkie and how much off roading can a 4x2 do? Will I be able to do Sani Pass?

In good conditions, certainly it can. Wet, ice, snow, washed out, perhaps rather avoid it.

Going up is not really the issue. Coming down is where it can get tricky. I prefer to use low range when descending as it takes the load off the brakes. Nothing like having brake fade because your brakes got too hot... Thankfully it didn't happen coming down Sani but a scary feeling indeed when you push the pedal and and you don't get the expected amount of stopping power!

You can do a lot of things with a 4x2, especially if it has a locker. But even without the locker it's still pretty capable. A lot of it comes down to driver skill and know-how. Tire pressures also NB.

And the main problem with a lot of places is ground clearance, which you have plenty of.

I have done Sani pass in the snow with an old Nissan 4x2

We** managed to leave a 4x4 on top of a mountain last weekend.

The local recovery okes went up on monday wth two vehicles and couldn't do it.

Been raining since, the new experts going up tomorrow.

If all goes well will post some pics.

*thought i might find some keenbeans who wanted a challenge, but there's insurance/liability issues

**that's the royal We, it was nothing to do with me before you lot start.

It seems they can carry on about killing cyclists and showing no regard for cyclists, but as soon as you turn it around and make it about the same happening to their families, they get all upset! Go figure...

Had a lovely chuckle at the youngest D today.

He went to the Atlantis dunes with his mate who has a Jeep Wrangler. They had visions of storming them there dunes and having a day of fun.............except they got stuck early on and basically spent the whole day digging themselves out........just to repeat..........and again...........until an old dude came to help. Got in the Jeep, fiddle fiddle, back up, fiddle ......and drove the thing out of the hole they dug it into! Experience trumps nearly everything else! They got home dog tired, sweaty, with tails between their legs and then still had to clean a Wrangler that now has sand in every possible part of it!

I've been invited to go along next time with the Landy and to PLEASE teach them how to drive the dunes! PRICELESS!  :D
