Sadly we've had the same in the UK before. Fishing wire between trees.

I don't know if there has ever been a fatality, but certainly people have been injured.

Having it over here now to.A village that's close to one of the trails is fighting with a bike and Kayak rental shop over the increased people in the area.

Have had logs put on the trails and rope tied across the path.Fortunately not been any injuries yet.

In Canada the bikers set up cameras and trapped a woman in her 70's setting traps on bike trails near Vancouver. She was successfully prosecuted.

We ride in the Benoni agricultural area between the small holdings and farms and have often had wire pulled between posts . Luckily its on the flat sections  and not on the down hill sections and have always been able to spot the wire . Dumping of rubble on a known track , single or Jeep track is also a common occurrence that catches us off guard  . The question we ask is WHY . We do not make a noise , tear the fields up or disturb wilstock .

The wire and rubble is most likely aimed at dirt bikers (who do make noise and tear up the fields).

I remember that story. Wasn't she taking the jumps apart too?

If I was the cyclists and lived near the Glen track, I'd be investing in a game camera to try and catch the perp.

That said, that riding area was always going to be a bit of a conflict zone. Dog walkers on the steepest fast DH section with bikes is a bad mix.

If a bunch of dogs roam the woods , how do you identify the bitch ? Well , it won't be Little Red Riding Hood , so it must be the one with the wire trap.

Wasn't the injured midget part of a very reputable bicycle tour/rental company, a player in the Enduro WC organising committee and a part of creating Ezelenduro and a solution to our local timing issues?

I would recognise his booger green hand made in Cape Town Steel bike anywhere...

there was also a situation on another TM trail where someone was breaking up and covering the trails .... the Table Mountain MTB guys set up a camera and managed to find out who it was..... guessing this will be the way forward on the Glen for a while to see what shows up on.

Privilege and self entitlement are far more likely the culprit here than crime

time to put out a game camera

Absolutely.

You will probably find it is some 70 year old angry man who spends the days shouting at clouds.

If he was younger or tougher or a criminal, they would simply do it themselves as they will probably find that more satisfying.

This is an act of a coward.

This was quite a common practice when I lived in Richards Bay a couple years back (2007-2010). The traps were set by criminals who would take bikes and mug the rider. If I remember correctly a few riders ended up in hospital with severe injuries. Hopefully this was just some isolated angry ******* and not the beginning of this kind of crime....
