Cape Town Cycle Tour seeding

I have found from experience that one of the best rides to do for a CTCT seeding point of view is the One Tonner.  Because of the length and difficulty it generally gets a relatively high Beta (last year was 1.42 - whereas 99er was 0.92).

Obviously you have to finish the event - but if you put in a bit of training, find a good bunch and finish mid back you will end up with a seeding/index equivalent of finishing top end in the shorter/easier events.

Similar story for DC - but then your whole team needs to be on board.

Now I understand how it works...Sorry never knew before, I assumed I would be penalised for doing the event but that's for clearing that up. I will do all other PPA races most likely as well as the seeding races again which will help with seeding ofcourse.. I wasn't using it specifically for seeding purposes, but rather for race experience as you said and for the "intensity" it brings..

Thanks for the info though I think I have a better understanding now(kind of)

You have to be careful with the one tonner. Any team event gets a lower beta. So if you ride one tonner in the team category you will get penalised in the seeding calculation. Ride it as an individual and the beta goes up. Dc doesn't attract a very good beta for CTCT seeding

You all forgetting that they going to start using Strava as well.....

Yeah this is such laugh.

Imagine all the guys now with their E-Bikes setting PR's on all segments, doing 100km rides with 35km/h averages on weekends and then get a nice seeding for CTCT, then on race day BOOM, dropped before they can even clip in

I really hope that if they really going to use Strava, it will have large penalty .

Would be nice to find our what would be the minimum requirements, does it take into account length of the ride, number of others riding the same route that day, do you need HR monitor on, etc.

Does make sense for where people are riding in other than racetec races, which would mean those races could also potentially contribute to your CTCT seeding.

You have obviously never been in the front bunches at the Argus/Burger, there are always 5-6 guys in the front groups that are north of 120kg, have flat shoes and a t shirt on. There are always people that cheat the system, even before.

The Strava one is a good test, if you can climb Suikerbossie in 4:30, even with an e-bike, kudos to you.

What a joke if they use Strava. I may as well go on a few nice steady cruises on my moped and set some personal bests on Chapmans Peak, Suikerbossie, etc.

You could cheat in a seeding race as well, if people want to cheat, they will cheat. Why punish those that are unable to do seeding events regularly?

Enjoy the moped.

We haven't heard any details yet but as much as we moan about them PPA isn't stupid, can't imagine they are going to start pulling in Strava results at random to get seedings

My gut feel is it will be something like a race where you forgot your timing chip (or your timing chip didn't work) then you would be allowed to use your Strava ride as official time.

Lets wait for more details before we call the mob

My biggest concern is lots of riders don't do any bunch riding and have very good strava times. At least if they do races, they forced todo bunch riding to get good seeding.

but agree, I'm sure PPA have a plan on how todo this properly.

Come on, you have been around long enough to know that is not how The Hub works. . . . We crucify first and ask for details never
