A reminder of the top ten standings in the young rider competition:

1. López (AST)

2. Carthy (EF1) at 32s

3. Sivakov (INS) at 40

4. Ackermann (BOH) at 53

5. Geoghegan Hart (INS) at 1:35

6. Ewan (LTS) at 1:42

7. Carboni (BRD) at 2:09

8. O'Connor (TDD) at 2:15

9. Peters (ALM) at 2:23

10. Madouas (ALM) at 2:36

Is it a pipe dream to think they might support Ben in any attempt to look at the Young Riders classification?

Unless Lopez has a disaster Ben isn't going to take that jersey away 2min back. Then add in GH and Sivakov, Ben has 1 hell of a job going for this even with full support.

Its cycling and anything can happen as we alway see but that's one hell of a job.

Roglic fell today, he could have also been packing for home like Tom.... like you say, anything can happen, but you need to be ready when the opportunity knocks.

I read that Ben was on the brink of making a top 10 at the Giro last year before falling on stage 19 and breaking a collarbone. So the talent is there to be in the mix, they should back him in the next 2 weeks.

hes a solid talent and a rider I rate well. He deserves support but when you look at the team he is there with, once they hit the mountains he won't have much at all.

Top 10 was on the cards and that crash was a total mess. I was actually gutted for him but Lopez can win the Giro - he is that good.

Awesome... Gianni Savio is such a character and deserves success. Swiss Tony's team gets a win. Masnada did well, was hoping the leader jersey would go to a local team but good to see the under dogs come up trumps and animate the race.

Not one for the sprinters today... I am also not convinced that it is one for the pure climbers either.

Breakaway to take it again? Or one of the Classics type riders?

I don't see anybody specifically earmarked for this... Unless if Thomas De Gendt decides to get in the break, the profile might get him interested...

Perhaps one of the GC contenders will have a bit of a go at Roglic today just to make sure that he is 100% fine after the tumble he took yesterday.

I picked Yates to attack today.....

Swift and Aero punting De Gendt again.... If you do it enough you will be right eventually like you were with Ackerman! hahaha

One thing you could be sure of last year was that De Gendt would be in the breaks... counting on that again... I like his style.

Me too. I tend to like riders who attack. I have found myself warming to Bauke Mollema in the last 2 seasons. He has been involved in some fantastic racing ever since he was told he was just another Teejay.....

Flip I certainly didn't predict the top 10 we currently have. The real GC guys better hope that one of those guys can't hang on for another 2 weeks. Even if they loose just a few seconds up the final climb of the hilly stages, they will still have enough time.

I think UAE will defend the jersey with more effort than Jumbo as they would want it as long as possible , so this make they break succeeding a bit less likely than yesterday.

I think De gent will wait for a day with more KOM and maybe not such punchy climbs , but that's just me.
