Did your wife never use her alu frame in 3 years? Do you think she will use a new one surely weight should not be that big a problem if you really want to cycle

She rides her road bike at least 3 times a week. Her previous mtb was 14,8kg. That was just under 1/3 of her body weight. She likes the off road but the bike was just to heavy, hence the migration to road.

You need to think wheels and fork rather than frame.

My daughter has an aluminium Titan 15" 650B that now weighs 9.6kg. Thanks to american classic race wheels and a fox fork.

Lost 1.4kg in the rear wheel alone. Another 1kg in the fork

More details please.

Agreed. The difference between a nice ali frame and a carbon from will be less than 500gr. But if you put light wheels, a lekker light fork (air spring is non-negotiable) and a lightweight cockpit on it, then it will quickly add up to not much weight at all.

Wifey has a small Anthem and a small spez hardtail. Both with sid forks, light wheels and a decent cockpit and she loves them both, because neither of them are boat anchors.

The Anthem even has a dropper.

You should ping that UK SAFFA guy. He has a thread about a cannondale that is very light. He will confirm how much getting lighter components makes a big difference. BUT he is paying through his teeth, that's if he still has any as he may have sold them to pay for light weight parts.

EDIT: Just in case you haven't seen the thread.....

If your wife see's what you have just written, that new bike frame you bought is also going to cross your mind.  Entering your left ear and out the right.....
