not sure if I should rather start a separate thread .....

FLAT PEDALS - I am looking for Spez 2FO Flat shoes, size 48.

Been on order for almost 4 months, each time I go in the shipment date gets moved back, and back and back ....

Anybody know where I could possibly source this ?

OR - what else should I be looking for ?

OR - must I just wait it out ....

Five Ten Freerider Pro - little bit more expensive, but lekker shoes.

Otherwise give the BrandStable a call, they do Ion shoes which if I am not mistaken is around the same price as the 2FOs.

What was the issue with your Shimano XC7s?

My XC7 shoes have been great, I've been using them for over 2 years on both road and MTB, mostly XC. I was looking for a shoe I could use for both road and MTB, plus always great to be able to walk around easily. I broke one of the BOA dial in a crash, but was able to source a replacement - otherwise they still look good. I will probably be looking at buying the 2019 version later this year.

When you buy the Shimano XC7 you will have shoes for life. They shrink in the toe box area and will be warrantied. You'll get a new pair like forever.

Sidi did change the last on their shoes. More volume in the forefoot and a bit more kick(upward curve) from the arch to the heel.

The mega is for people with wide feet and high arches. If you have low or normal arch then mega will be too lose a fit.

Sidi still come up narrower than Shimano or lake in the same size so they recommend you go a size up.

I'm a 42 so for sidi I'd fit into a 43.

Are you using the most recent models.?

There were suggestions that Sidi changed its last on newer models ... most shoes supposedly a bit wider/more volume even the standard/non mega models.

May be worth a fit for anybody who had width issues previously.

No denying Sidi pedigree.

But as they say, only if the shoe fits. :)

Hi there Thomo,

I currently have the Sidi Ergo4 as my road shoe. Not the very latest shoe BUT the latest in the Mega range. I haven't tried any of the newer "normal" shoes as yet, but will definitely give it a try once my current shoes are due for replacement/upgrade

I have a pair of Fizik R1. The dual BOA makes micro adjusting on the fly very easy.

I have the model below those(R3), same colour. The most uncomfortable shoe I have ever worn. My little toe takes some serious strain. I also have a pair of S-WORKS(about 3 models old) and they are very comfy. I use the Fiziks for the 2h15m odd races and the S-WORKS for the 3h races. Train with some louis garneu that are not too bad at all.

Have Ions from brand stable. Comfortable (used on 70km plus ride) and grippy.

Bontrager also have flats as well, guys at Bloemendal perhaps

But you have patience, so don't think you have a problem waiting a little longer [emoji6]

the only way i can explain it...i normal spend 3-5 hours riding in the shoes...what i assume is happening...its like the inside has cardboard...as it gets wet from the sweat... it takes the shape of my toes...when i take the shoe off and if dries it goes hard in that shape...as i ride so it gets worse...to a point that it feels like my toe nails are getting pulled off....other than this issue i would highly recommend these shoes.

it is such a pity because i would rate this shoe 9/10 for the best all round cycling shoe for both mtb and road cycling.

the sole i believe has a 10 stiffness rating.

when you need to apply power to the pedal ...it has a solid platform.

it has a boa system which works great for adjusting while on the go and you can lock it down when you need to.

the rubber outer sole works well when you need to put your foot down on rocks and helps when you cant clip in straight away...the shoe doesnt slip off the pedal.

they look good enough to use on the road bike...lots of bling (i have the black and blue) just more comfortable to walk in than road shoes.

i am hoping shimano is going to come up with a solution...i cant think of any other shoe as a replacement for this shoe....there are many road or mtb specific shoes to choose...but none that offer the best of both.

Nope

They (not Best Bikes) sold me a pair of Bontragers that "could be used with flat pedals" .... NO !!  These have HARD soles and dont grip on flat pedals !!  SCARY when you go through the bends of B Spot and you FEEL your feet sliding on the pedals !!      SCARY !!

Tossed it after two rides.

So it is wait for 2FO ... or start looking at the alternatives ....  The gents at Tygerberg Cycles were VERY helpful in checking my size and confirming what I want, just a pity they cant get stock ....

Chris, you should switch to cleats - much simpler solution to the slipping issue ;). There is also the bonus of no bleeding/bruised shins from the pedals when things go wrong.

You could try one size bigger and some nice cycling socks. I normally do upto 6 hour rides and have done long rides in the rain and mud where the shoes took two days to dry out properly and they have been ok. I also have the blue and black colour, they were pretty well priced at around 3k and the shining top material is very easy to wipe the mud off so they look decent again for road riding :).

Checking the inside of the toe area I can feel some bumps on the inside, but it hasn't bothered me yet - they've done the mileage though so I can't complain. They have changed the design for 2019 - hopefully they've fixed the toe box issue!

I got a call to say my replacement pair of XC7 had arrived...thought to myself while driving to collect them that it might be a good idea to collect them and unload them while they are still brand new...dont feel like the hassle of replacing them again.

so i arrived at the shop ...saw the box on the counter...with a very negative attitude...opened the box...looked across at Deno and said "these are not my shoes"...my shoes are XC7 ...shining bling plastic looking narrow front shoes...turned them over and saw the sole was the same...but in my confusion...must have sounded like an idiot...said again...these are not my XC7 shoes.

the shoes i sent away were didnt look anything like these shoes in the box...except the sole

I havent fitted the cleats yet...but i have tried them on...when you fit them...they just feel right..they are not tight in the front like the old ones...which hopefully means no more numbness.

the boa system is way smoother...in fact if you look at the XC7 and XC9 you wouldnt know the difference unless you look at little closer at others things...like there is more ventilation on the XC9 ..the sole is the same rock solid rubber as the old XC7.

I will update once i have worn them and tried them out.
