Lost ground not commuting Friday and today. Have to fetch kids after work today.

You can make it up during winter...

Lots of grumbles and flashes outside.

I am sitting in my office watching the lighting and rain.

Going to apply discretion before valour.

Wife is on standby to come and fetch me.

This will be in contravention of the 'Don't be a wuss" rule.

This is what it looked like this afternoon. Dodging hail marbles and ducking for the lightning that hit the fence just behind me.

The cars in the picture pulled off the road trying to escape the hail - the trees weren't much help. The wall did help a bit but the hail did find some holes in the helmet.

Holy cr@p!  Cat, that must have been terrifying.

Glad to  see that you made it back safely !

It must have been a tough choice - avoid the lightning by staying away from the tall trees or get hit by the hail.

Anyway... I think you and the hubby have set a new standard for tough-as-nails. The rest of will have to think very hard before we wimp out of a commute in the future.

Hubbie commutes with me. There was no plan B.

My wife rides with me to work in the mornings then goes home so I did have another option.

Normally rain is not a deterent but the lightining is - I had a near miss when playing baseball. Not an experience I would like to repeat.

I managed to get home in time. I have been lucky this week with these afternoon thundershowers. Fortunately I finish work at 15h15. Just before I was about to leave I started hearing the thunder. My wife sent a message saying it was looking dodge at home. I sprinted home. I have been stuck in these afternoon joburg storms before and like most of you are saying, hail and rain is the least of your concerns once the lightning starts striking. One of the only times I have ever jumped a red robot was during one of these storms last year and I was stationary at a red when the lightning hit a lamp post in the intersection, there were no cars on the green side so I just went through and hid at the garage on the other side of the intersection.

I completely didn't even think about the danger of the trees serving as lightning conductors.

There was no toughness, Imploder, I promise! If there was a way out of it I would have taken it.
