Question to @LWB.  If a door (entry doors into cabin not cargo door) was to be fixed on an airliner, is it regulation that for a number of seats around that door is not to be occupied for the next flight and if so for how many flights is this the case?

So I heard about this(also saw the article you posted below). It was apparently a escape slide, so not an entry/exit door but rather a door over a wing for emergency exits. So regulation says(I will just use random numbers as example) if the aircraft takes a maximum of 200 people and you need 1 emergency exit per 50 people then you will need 4 exits. If the plane only has 2 main entry/exit doors then it needs to have 2 more emergency exit doors elsewhere. The regulations also says the doors need to be a certain distance apart so you don't have some pax having to run a marathon to the nearest door. So, Yes, if a door has been locked out, then you need to block out some seats and it is usually seats closest to that door. BUT, now this is where the news is a bit misleading. SAA doesn't book pax on these flights. They are charter flights for SAA. SAA is simply supplying the plane and informing the embassy of how many seats the plane has. Also what is misleading is that plane arrived home serviceable. So the problem was fixed that side.................. There should have been no reason to block out seats. I have not been able to find out how many pax returned on that flight. Usually we are able to see but with these flights we have no info as they not our flights. So my honest opinion is the flight was overbooked, there was a problem but the problem was fixed and the stranded pax just assumed they were left behind due to the door issue or some smartass that has plenty social media followers decided to spew fake news to drag SAA through the mud. I am not trying to side with SAA here but in this case I feel they being harshly punished by some media.

I have a little JR Forza 450. What an absolute brilliant little heli. Such a pity JR folded, though I think you can still buy them. I also have an Align TREX Pro 500. I am not real good with the helis though. And parts prices are eina, IF you can get the parts.

JR was bought by a company called DFA. I Think they are still operating but it's not JR like it was back in the day. JK-Products is/was the importer and they still have some JR stuff.

I Also still have a JR 9XII transmitter with a Spektrum 2.4GHz module fitted. It is still in excellent condition and works perfectly so no need to change anything.

Currently I only have one heli. It's a Hirobo SDX (600 size nitro) old school fly-bar model. It is set up with a Spektrum receiver, YS 56 engine, Hatori pipe and Futaba electronics. Unfortunately SA Modelsport closed a couple of years ago so there is no importer for Hirobo in the country. Hirobo is still in business so you can import if needed. I've got a complete new spare kit and some extra spares so i'm good for a crash or two. I Will probably switch to Align or Goblin sometime in the future, they the only brands with decent importers that I know of.

A sobering read, and LWB you're quite right about the overbooked flight.

Well I happen to know a bit what happened their.  I spent my Saturday afternoon on the phone with the SA Ambassador to Germany trying to find some information on behalf of those left behind.  The flight was overbooked from the start.  Don't think it was so many seats.  But there were people seated in the plane ready to takeoff.  But they had to wait quite a while and eventually the opened the cabin doors for ventulation.  When the finally got the go-ahead to roll out, the problem came in with one of the doors  That is when the flight got cancelled.  Lufthansa Technik fixed the door but then people sitting around the problem door were removed.  So the end figure was that 45 odd people was left stranded on Frankfurt airport.

That must have been a seriously frustrating few days. Reading karooryders article makes ones blood boil and feel for the people in the situation.

Did the 45 odd people eventually get home?

I don't understand why the lufthansa guys blocked out the seats. Only thing I can think of if they never actually fixed it properly and what ever they did do was put onto the MEL and the MEL said block the seats out.

Ramy of Ramy RC built his moulds for his RC's of heavies on a 3D Printer, which he produces in Autocad, then he lays the carbon, and joins the sections together.

His attention to detail is incredible, and that A350 is looking superb, first flight imminent.

He lives in Germany but not where he comes from, haven't quite placed his accent as yet.

They got booked on a KLM flight on Monday lunchtime to Amsterdam and then flew Tuesday lunchtime out to Cape Town on KLM.  They are all in quarintine there at the moment.

I know Johan and Kallie who owns JK Products quite well. Kallie stays just a block from me and is also part of our neighbourhood watch. He also have a borehole and helped me with water during our water crisis down here. I bought an Ergo 50 CCPM from Kallie second-hand many years ago, and the heli is stored away. I have however lost my JR 3810 that I used to fly the thing. Can't find the radio anywhere.

I am thinking of inporting a Synergy though for a YS Tareq 96 SRX motor I have. When I have the money though. That or a SAB Goblin.

A friend of mine has a 3d printer and is starting to print some planes.

This is another one he's working on, takes a 50mm EDF fan & 2 servos.

That a Buccaneer?  Was amazed to see that the Thunder City  people started the monster with something that looked like a huge big shotgun cartridge. Sadly never flew in one.

Yes I always talk and deal with Johan. My first heli was a Venture 50. I Must have crashed that thing about 50 times. I Didn't have someone to teach or buddy me so I learned the expensive way. I Have owned most of the brands over the years but the JR's was by far my favorites. My Vibe 50 had 300 flights in it's logbook when I sold it.
