Lycoming, continental and mostly PT6 for me

What I liked about the smaller aircraft is you got to do everything on them, yourself and an assistant

Someone mentioned a Cheetah....and then saw this on a LinkedIn feed

And then also some Mirage F1's, not SAAF but ex Spanish airforce, now living in the USA and going to be used for as a "cheap supersonic" Fighter and adversary training platform.

 

They F1's and Cheetahs are being assembled and maintained in the US with the help of Paramount personnel

I had a weird experience during SONA. I was watching "Air crash Investigation" and about the time when the plane was about to crash, the Gripens roared overhead. 

Quite a realistic experience, I can tell you...

Today i was at the Pilatus aircraft factory and there is a Mirage 111S standing guard at the entrance looking rather forlorn...

 

These were built under license by the swiss, (much like SA with their mirages) EXCEPT they were modified with American avionics and weapon system, and had strengthened lifting points on the airframe and wings... these were to allow them to be lifted by crane when parked in their mountain bunkers...the bunkers are apparently tight on space so they moved them around by crane.

 

Also some were fitted with JATO (Jet assisted take off) rockets for assisted take off from their mountain bases.

 

The canards just behind the engine intakes was also a later modification to improve manoeuvrability and lower the landing speed

Great aircraft that  - and I must say that I really like Dassault's latest, the Rafale, beautiful lines.

 

 

 

 

I see the A380 orders are being cancelled and the production line is expected to close ...its just not economical to operated cf the latest twins.
