I will be on holiday in the fairest Cape 29/1 - 9/2 staying at the Chapmans Peak caravan park location as per the map attached.

Taking my road bike for a change, could you guys and girls advise some relatively safe routes to ride taking in some climbing and scenery of about 50-60k's? I'll ride most days so 3 or 4 different ones would be great [emoji41]

GPS routes would of course be ideal but even hand drawn maps will help to make something with MapMyRide

Hope to see some of y'all around!

Thanks

Ben

Start at the Village Roastery, Noordhoek Village, right near you, pick up a crew, ride to Bootlegger's, or Camps Bay and back...should give you about 50 Chappues and Suikerbossie x 2

every thing south of you is also great road riding Ben

to simonstown

to kommetjie

or round the point via scarborough and smitswinkel

there are always cyclists on those routes and a lot less traffic

55km and about 700m in vert from there round the point and back. Add R140 and 25km to the trip to get to the point itself. Pick a VERY windless day for that tho.

My advice is to get past massi early. The kids, dogs and taxi's make it an exiting ride. Which means leaving Noordhoek early bells or going Noordhoek, Massi, Ocean View, Scarborough, Smits, Simons Town, Glencairn, fishhoek home.

Be sure to stop at the hub in scarborough for a coffee. The coffee shop is in da back. The owner is himself an avid cyclist and can often be seen on his custom Dave Stubbs wood and carbon creation.

Be sure to have a sundowner beer(s) at the Red Herring.

Great base to ride from.

You can also go up and over Ou Kaapse Weg, then South along Boyes Drive, Fish Hoek towards Simons Town. (From there around the Point or over Black Hill or Red Hill for a shorter ride. Also, a ride right down to the very point inside the nature reserve is great, but will cost you the entrance fee, and last I looked that was a 100 and something bucks.) Ou Kaapse Weg is a real big wake up climb on cold legs, but hey, "we" are tough, are we not? I would only do that early on a weekend morning, otherwise Ou Kaaps is a bit busy nowadays.

Chapmans Peak hill repeats! (Just kidding, you are on holiday.)

You can also add Red Hill into the round the point mix. It's a GREAT little climb from Simonstown with an Alpine backroad feel to it. The views of Simonstown and the bay are incredible.

I've not heard of any security incidents but it does feel remote. From the top you can roll to Scarborough without so much as a pedal stroke. Or you can turn left at the intersection for the long 3% grind all the way to the Cape Point gate.

From there to the stadium and back will be a little over 60. Lekker roads and views. Needs a bit of care and vigilance from Camps - Sea Point, but simple enough.

Peninsula is great too as is Ou Kaaps. Enjoy.

Get in touch closer the time and perhaps a couple of us can meet up?
