Hectic Promotions

Recommended Posts

Event Name: Tshwane Diamond Classic
When: 26 May 2019
Where: Baviaanspoort Correctional Facility, Pretoria, Gauteng
Category: Road

The Tshwane Diamond Classic, presented by Hectic Promotions, is a brand-new National Classic road race for Gauteng! The date falls within a wonderful climate time on the Highveld when Fall temperatures are mild and the chances of rain slim, ensuring that the race optimises the potential participant base. The road race presents a feature 110km distance while a 50km fun ride distance also forms part of the weekend to make the event as inclusive as possible. We also have a kids event and a fun walk inside the correctional facility terrain to complete the picture. The traction of the Tshwane Diamond Classic is locked into the delightful and quiet Sunday morning road conditions around Cullinan as well as the Tshwane Metro's support and the town's vicinity to the major cycling catchment area represented by Johannesburg and Pretoria

  • 2 months later...

Anyone know if late entries will be available at the start on Sunday?

I'd like to know too... I am hesitant to enter events beforehand this time of year with all the viruses floating around, can't know when you will be healthy enough to ride...

This was under Venue arrangements on my seeding email:

"Late registration as well as registration for the kids races and 5km fun walk/run will take place inside the dining hall, which is adjacent to the starting chutes."

I assume that means you can register on the day.

Anyone know what the road condition will be like in terms of potholes, man hole covers etc? And what the road closure situation looks like?

I asked them today at collection and they confirmed that you can enter on the morning of the race unless you're in the licensed categories.

By the way, best goodie bag ever. The sponsor Ultimate Office National provided a whiteboard, whiteboard marker, permanent marker, high viz vest, water bottle etc. Was not expecting it and had to carry it all back to the office on my bike. Well done.

Sounds like a good one.

I'd say yesterdays route was one of the best I've done in a long while.

I found it very entertaining.

A good mix of fast sections coupled with a few surprisingly steep hills.

As for road surface, it was fairly rough, but not unbearable.

I only saw one or 2 small potholes - nothing at all serious.

And traffic was minimal.

Very impressed with the organisers on that front. Well done.

Only one gripe - signs to the toilets all pointed to one set of toilets with only 2 toilets men, 3 for ladies (2 of which I believe were not flushing).

I believe there were other toilets around, but there was no obvious signage to them. Buildings one could easily approach from the parking area were all locked.

Saw a couple patties in the field after there race were people must have relieved themselves in order to not miss their starts.

Loved the route.  Challenging and not your boring run of the mill stuff.

Organisers were very good, start on time, safe sprint, traffic was good, bike marshals perfect.

I'll be back for more suffering for sure.

Not doing this race again. A couple of toilets for almost 1,700-2,000 cyclists is not acceptable.

There were no road closures, not even partial, with the cars and coal trucks getting really close to us at times.

Car drivers were driving on the wrong side of the roads pushing us of on to the yellow lane; there was minimal policing, only visible at the intersections.
