Performance enhancing drugs are readily and easily available in SA...I'm talking order online and have them delivered next day.

I used many stupid substances over the years for body building. I don't use anymore but a few years ago went searching online for stuff like melatonin and 5HTP which you now need scripts for in SA. The site I order these from sells everything under the sun when it comes to performance drugs.

As I say I used steroids and many many class A drugs in my youth and it really shocked me just what is available and how easy it is to get online.

Doping programs are not as complex as many people think and easily available. Simple blood tests can be done at doctor or clinic and I'm pretty sure without parents needing to be involved.

Cost of the drugs are not high, they can be ordered online, programs and structure available online, simple blood tests available... parents would never know or even need to be involved.

My point is it is a lot easier then many think to go down this road and I can assure you many many cyclists in SA are using something not found at Clicks to get some improvement.

Biggest danger these days is not the drugs or even getting the drugs, it's timing the detection period so you stay under the radar.

Frightening

Dopers should be banned for life from sports.

See the drug I’d for lowering blood pressure so not sure it was take by accident?

Who prescribed the drugs to him? They should be charged.

Who paid for drugs? If medical aid paid and he didn’t really need them then he should be charged with fraud.

Coach probably was aware of the fact that he was using medication to boost performance.

Dopers get off far to easily.

One year and his back....what lesson was learnt and also no deterrent to future cheats.

The stigma will stick with him and about 5 people on twitter will keep asking how his blood pressure is. Then those 5 will be told to stop harassing the poor ex doper that has served his time.

If done correctly the doper leaves the sport thank fully.

Has not worked for a certain South African "Sprinter"

Whom still keeps winning races??? Even though he is older than most he competes with - So is serving a ban for a short term fair to the sport and maybe cleaner competitors? I don't think so... clearly the there is long lasting effect making lifetime ban the only fair punishment.

Not so sure about that though.Dopers are still getting sponsored and taking opportunities away from clean hard training athletes .

Saw the other day that a doper who did 18 months suspension is winning races again.

Gummi, what makes you say the coach was probably aware?

Monkey see, monkey do. These youngsters are seeing their idols do this and get away with it so why wouldn't they try it? The risks of being caught are low and punishment isn't much. The example needs to be set at the top.

That "top SA sprinter" that was mentioned above should never have been allowed back into any sport. Even at his age now he still somehow wins just about everything and gets placed into teams every year. Do the sponsors not research who they are giving their money away to anymore?

It is NOT a controlled substance; internationally.

It is NOT only used for blood pressure.

It is found in multiple other products, and could be taken inadvertently.

So he was riding for ProTouch at the time of the positive...

Same team who think it's all good and fine to make a former doper their team captain - what a great example that sets.

The more the sport changes, the more it stays the same

They said he left the team in April 2018

Is it just me or are a LOT of these dopers track or ex-track riders? Is there a culture there or someone that is feeding this monster within the track racing realm?
