I would hate to work out how many hangovers I can attribute to this guy. I have had more really good parties than I care to remember, starting way back when he first appeared on campus down in Martitzburg.

I am so grateful that I was able to see him perform live several times. Probably one of the first live shows I went to as a child with my parents, then for me to share his final performance at Monte in 2017 with my two sons. Truly grateful and blessed.

In the words of Paul Simon:

"His path was marked

By the stars in the Southern Hemisphere

And he walked his days

Under African skies."

RIP Legend.

This has reminded me about why I love Africa and why I will never leave

He helped shape so many of our lives .His music spanned my generation and also my children,s .Some of the few, dad,s music, that my children also loved .As close to a real south African that you can get

I toured with him in the States around 2006.. It was an amazing experience.

Every time they got up on stage and performed Asimbonanga I got tears in my eyes.

And my FB memory feed tells me that today 3 years ago I did my last show with him at Monte..

A very wise man with great knowledge and depth of the social and cultural issues which run so deep in this country

No way, where you actually in the band or part of the tour machinery(sorry if you've told us already)?

I went to the CT final journey concert at grandwest, it was both special and sad. He brought on Jesse, he brought on Sipho it was truly just amazing. I had a slight regret that the overwhelming majority of attendees were white, surely a cross-over artist should appeal to all of our nation? If he can't bring people together then who? Well I can lay that thought to bed, as the tributes to him have been universal.

Near the end I had enough of our seats and went down to the floor, and got right up close. I walked away from that night with three important things:

*his thumb pick

*the paper A4 setlist

*everlasting memories
