I wonder if riding with so many others makes it easier to keep the motivation going. You kind of support each other.

I also wonder if it makes navigation easier.

So we've reached the stage where the leaders have covered double the distance of the back markers and will be interesting to see how many of the back markers make it before cut off.

It's fantastic to see John Ntuli moving up the field, I think we're in for an interesting night.

Daryl Wilson was leading at 170.7km.. now I see he has been scratched

If you look at his full history he was in a car and never in the race, looks like AA will suffer the same fate.

I see Jack Black is at 0km. Anybody know if he is out or maybe tracker issues?

I think we'll only know tomorrow, in the past I have seen a number of riders that appear not to have got out of the starting blocks suddenly appear on the leaderboard.

Looks like Nico Coetzee has a mechanical he has been walking for the last hour, I hope he can get it fixed at the WP. He's got 10km to go!

is it against the rules to get a text or call that you are WAAAAYYYYY off course?not that i assume there is any signal in any case. How would the race organisers know? just asking for real. talking about LM in this instance

edit: AND - do they have to backtrack and get back on course where they left? in LM's case they are actually going the long way assuming they take a left in the not to distant future. AVD now too it seems.
