Markellis Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I've heard some guys battle to find the cleat....
WIPEOUT 1000 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 The ideal shoes and cleats for a sub 3 Argus are those that make you ride 350 km per week . Agree, I think the most important thing about finding the right pedals & cleats for you, is that you make sure that they can be set up so that you can ride the distance required without them hurting or injuring you.
T-Bob Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Hi there Wonder whether anyone can give me some advice regarding suitable cleats and shoes for my new road bike. I'm intending to replace my ten year old Olympic shoes with a new pair. Any recommendations? I've been struggling with the Ryder cleats that came with the new road bike. They are not the easiest to 'click into' - which makes stopping and starting slightly frustrating. Really appreciate any advice and suggestions Thanks Do they not have an adjustor on the pedal for the spring tension? Might be good to back that off if it does. Pedals and shoes are super personal. Once you've found a combination that works it's hard to move away. I've alway liked Look pedals and Gaerne shoes as they fit my hobbit feet pretty nicely but they aren't that cheap. My preference ad the closest I got to the Sub 3 (3:01:01) were on carbon Look pedals with carbon soled shoes. No flex, light and great power transfer. World of difference between them and normal shoes. Couldn't get me in the sub-club tho! Could never get on with Speedplay pedals or the shimano road pedals (but prefer their MTB ones over Looks ones) so it really is a bit of a lottery. If you are getting new pedals then make sure they have some adjustability so you ca back them off at first then the everything breaks in a bit you can tighten them up.
Jewbacca Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I have some brand new TIME road cleats and pedals you can try out. They are in a bag, never used. If you train enough they will easily smash a sub 3 AND you will look awesome riding from Bootlegger to Bootlegger every weekend with the Savages!
DieselnDust Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 They never helped me with a sub 3.......Did you spend enough TIME in them?
Duane_Bosch Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 If you train enough they will easily smash a sub 3 AND you will look awesome riding from Bootlegger to Bootlegger every weekend with the Savages! You can keep up with the Savages?
Jewbacca Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 You can keep up with the Savages?pffft.... Can't you?!
Duane_Bosch Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 pffft.... Can't you?! On my bike no. In my car only on the flats. I have a diesel.
DJTerblanche Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 These cleats works well for mehttps://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/marvel-spd-sl-7-degree-road-cleatSee they are now R150, think I got them for cheaper.Works with Shimano pedals. I also do not really know why the roadies need different type of cleat/pedal setup than MTB'ers. Do not think it makes such a big difference (the bigger surface area on foot is apparently better for roadies and little lighter). Marginal gains...

MDJ Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Ryder make some good products i.e lights etc ... but I found their clipless pedals pretty crap. I'd vote for Look Keos or Shimano 105+, then get some nice stiff sole road shoes - anything from Giro's to Shimano's, BOA dials rock if you can afford them. Any bike shop in southern suburbs should be able to help you out, Olympic Cycles, Crown etc. It will be cheaper online but I think shoes are one of those things you want to try out in person - also easier to warranty if you need to.
DJTerblanche Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 These shoes can do a 2h49 Argushttps://www.firstascent.co.za/force-road-cycling-shoe edit: And I like the shoes, probably because I do not know any better

Quagga Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I have never done a sub 3 and until today I thought it must be my weight or bike or not enough training . Never knew that you sub 3 cleat and non sub 3 clieats
