I just had to read through 5 pages to get to the point where I can also comment. Can't you guys wait until Monday morning before posting on the Hub  :whistling:? Work is not that important  :).

Ok, so here's my comment: If you feel that your lycra and polystyrene shell of a helmet will do well against a +/-1 ton piece of metal flying at around 3 times the speed you're currently travelling at then, have at it. Even ride 4-5 a breast.

Life is short and things happens within the wink of an eye, why make it easier for something to go wrong? Common sense is not that common any more  :)

Most motorvehicle on cyclist impacts occur when the cyclist is staying far left and the motorist wanders into the  path of the cyclist.

So how good is staying far left actually?

You're out of the line of sight / centre of focus.

Robert Whitehead, there is a speed limit of 40km/h in place on both sides of Chapmans Peak. If the motorists also stick to the speed limit, do not overtake on blind rises and corners with solid white lines, do not overtake in the face of oncoming vehicles, and adhere to the rule to only overtake when safe to do so, the risk to cyclists will be greatly reduced.

Not saying the cyclists are never at fault or behave like asses, but "your" impatience and refusal to forego 10-20 seconds of your precious time, can cause that someone loses a life or limb.

In any case, it is touted as one of the most scenic routes in the world, so slow down to within the prescribed speed limit, adhere to the rules of the road as prescribed to YOU, and take the time to take in the beautiful view. Then "we" will all get to the other side safely.

edit = spelling mistakes.

If that was taken by a cyclist, then he himself was riding somewhere in the middle of the road...

Can you please post where in they rules the distance is specified that a cyclist must be from the left?

Technically the OP in not breaking a law BUT the other are.

since the tjop that took the picture in secret and decided to shame these okes on social media wasnt in a car and there is no car behind them or anywhere in the distance, then technically speaking there is no danger so they can take up the entire road if they want to, who cares!! if a tree falls in the middle of the wood and no one is there to see or hear it, did the tree fall? Get yourself a hobby or do something constructive with your time than to moan about nonsense on forums or social media

So you pick and choose the rules you follow? So texting and driving is ok when you think it is safe to do so?????

If this is the same group I saw them cycling up Constantia Nek towards Chappies at 1pm on Sunday, single file but I thought they must be crazy. Loads of traffic at that time and very risky.

Edit: I used to cycle loads and looking back you should maybe not be going up those roads at that time, very risky and very easy for something to happen by mistake.

You're kidding me? On Chappies?

I saw them in Camps Bay headed in that direction. 3 Chirons and 3 Veyrons. With a few SUV's with heavies inside that I can only assume were body guards or something.

I was too slow on the draw to get the chirons
