So reading through this I gather that you‘d pay a chunk of money to receive a unit that somebody else already rejected and that then was shipped to somewhere for repair. Chances to get a lemon seem high.

Suddenly my 4-6h battery life doesn’t sound so bad anymore. Especially since everything else works perfectly.

Unless: do they offer an ‚upgrade‘ to the 530 yet?

it cant be that difficult to replace the battery yourself. Im sure you can find a compatible/replacement battery somewhere online. Ill do the replacement for you for free if you can source the battery

Yes, they wont replace the battery but the whole unit. Contact Garmin and they will send you the details of what you need to do. info@garmin.co.za

You have to courier the unit to them and they then quote to replace it with a new one. I think it was around R2k for an out of warranty device.

Huh?? My 510 was replaced with 520 but cost me R4k.

Wonder what I did wrong

Judging by the number of people who seem to have gone that way, the service works.

Having changed the battery in my sony Xperia, the garmin won't be too hard.

Hairdryer to loosen the glue and your in.

That been said, I'm always keen to upgrade and a 830 is VERY nice ????

I have an 820 and I recently upgraded to a 530. Decided on the 530 rather than the 830 because the touch screen is not great (or doesn't work at all depending on the gloves) when you are wearing long fingered gloves which I do all year round on the MTB and in winter on the road bike.

Just something to think about.

Did anyone have success recently with any Garmin battery replacement?

I have a Edge 530 that is due for a battery replacement.

Where do I go? Navworld? Garmin SA? or my "local cellphone technician "?
