Best would be a saddle fit and work from there. if you are going the trial and error rout mayby the Ryder Force would be a good cheep start seems to be working for a lot of people.

What is your budget? Let's start there.

Next up would be how nice his bum is. ... errr. I mean the measurement of his sitting bones.

Take your budget and your hubby to a good local bike shop and let them measure him. Then pick the prettiest one you can afford in the right size and see the smile on his face.

Thanx all. Nearest good bike shop....errr...350km. So a fitting is bit out of reach. With the drought in the Karoo, flowers and chocs also ????????????

A very universal saddle that works for most riders will be a 143mm Phenom or Power from Specialized, but the WTB volt is also a popular option. Farr is a good choice as well. I would troll the hub for a second hand option in one of the above so that if it doesn't work for him then at least the original capital outlay was not too much ????

In which case you will need to measure his undercarriage.

The easiest I found is to sit on bubble wrap with knees bent about the same amount they bend on the bike. Then pivot forward into about the same position as you would sit while riding. Wiggle the hips a little.

When you get up from the bubble wrap there should be two flat spots. Circle them with a permanent marker.

Now measure the distance between the centers of the circles.

Add 20 to 30mm to this measurement.

In my case it came to 120mm +- and I added up to 142mm and bought that size.

Since it’s not super accurate I suggest doing the measurement a few times and using the average.

And now I’ll sit back and wait for the “that’s the dumbest idea ever” comments.
