MajG Posted August 2, 2020 Share Im fairly new into MTB, on my browsing on bikehub and other platforms such as Facebook marketplace and gumtree even, spec for spec CPT bikes generally more pricier for used bikes. Even parts of bikes, is it just more availability in other SA regions or is it relative to our damn crazy housing prices hahahahhaha
RomP Posted August 11, 2020 Share CPT prices on used bikes and parts are over inflated compared to Gauteng and rest of SA. This is based on my experience shopping for bikes and parts the last 6 months. MajG, Headshot and Kom

MORNE Posted August 11, 2020 Share our bikes and parts see more manicured trails, less potholes, more nature, less glassy road servitudes, more cycle lanes, more mountain....more cape town bru. that all comes at a premium on a serious note...i haven't specifically noticed any huge discrepancies... but then again..we have less spaz bikes here too so it's hard to tell for sure Edited August 11, 2020 by morneS555 Pure Savage, Arrie, Hairy and 11 others

aquaratza Posted August 11, 2020 Share I was hunting for a bike for my partner. I eventually found one for a decent price near JHB (I'm in the Western Cape). I can't remember where the seller was based but it was a 2 hour drive for him to the airport. I had some spare air miles, so I flew up to OR Tambo and flew back with the bike. It's black. In retrospect the time wastage probably wasn't worth it. Did I mention it was black? haha Fork-it, Capricorn and Hairy

Gerhard765 Posted August 12, 2020 Share I believe it is like a location tax for living in Cape town (or discount for living in gauteng). Scenery and riding parks there seems a lot better to me than what we have in Gauteng. Edited August 12, 2020 by Gerhard765 Duane_Bosch
Arrie Posted August 12, 2020 Share i have noticed the same thing, i live in Cape Town but my last 2 bikes i have purchased outside of Cape Town. In fact, the bike I bought a month ago, there is an exact same bike in Cape Town for sale for R10k more

Even parts of bikes, is it just more availability in other SA regions or is it relative to our damn crazy housing prices hahahahhahaI think this is anecdotal evidence to support a preconceived fallacy (but could well be wrong). it seems 80% of the classifieds in volume are evenly split between Wc and gauteng anyway, so it might as well be a direct comparison.https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/industry-news/bike-hub-2019-year-in-review-r8028 bikehub HQ geeks could maybe extrapolate the data, but we've only got for sale prices here anyway - and you're going to battle to find an example of the same bike selling in 2 different locations either. Darryllk Posted August 12, 2020 Share Yip, i agree with this as well...last 2 bikes(1. frame+fork 2. complete bike) had been purchased from a hubber (not the same person) up in gauteng with great savings noted. Both occasions I had the seller take to LBS(happened to be a cyclelab in both instances) and shipped via the shops courier service provider. i have noticed the same thing, i live in Cape Town but my last 2 bikes i have purchased outside of Cape Town.
