Seems Pogacar is more suited to the cold days than the hot ones. Yesterday was relatively warm and he wasn't lightyears ahead of everyone.

So at best the GC contenders will hope for warm days and then attack him relentlessly, if they can, until something sticks.

Paris is still some way off.

The commentators mentioned that yesterday, apparently TP doesn't like the heat much at all.

I was very concerned that they would ask Wout to sit up on the descent yesterday and wait for Vingegaard. With only a 10s gap to the two Trek riders initially, I think Wout could have closed it down and still taken the Win, but I am happy he got the win under the belt without the added stress.

IMHO they should leave Wout to do what he does best. But losing Tony Martin yesterday, TJV is very thin on support for Vingegaard.

Vingegaard seems absolutely fine on his own on the climbs. He will need the Wout Watts if he gets caught out in crosswinds.

So most likely instruction is to stick with Vingegaard till 3km-to-go on sprint stages and then Wout can surf wheels to try and get a result. His breakaway days are probably done, for now.

If you have the legs, you don't necessarily need a team to get to or stay on the podium. Vingegaard can rely on others to be there and make a move, like yesterday's.

Bingo. He just needs to be able to identify whose strongest on the day and stick with him.

Pog will do the same but Jon has to keep himself in the game because his team can't

After yesterday, I'm sure WvA and SK (if and when he recover) can and will support/help him.

Just saw Peter Sagan is out of the tour ... ????

Hopefully he has time to sort his knee out before the Olympics

Is he riding the XC (or DH) this year ?
(Sort of serious, sort of joking)

Don't think he's doing the road race so if he's going it will be the TT or XCO (which might actually suit him)

What is TJV to do?

Wout sits on 44 points, 2nd in the KoM competition, with Quintana on 50.

Vingegaard can likely contest for 2nd on GC.

Split their resources and every man for themselves or all-in for a specific cause?

Tough one.

Both outcomes can be achieved, they just have to be smart about it. They will need WvA do more of what he did yesterday and is get in the break, then break the break with the only difference being to stay within range of Vingegaard's ability to bridge. The where how and when is of course detail that needs to be worked in relation to each riders ability to execute on the day. As the tour goes further into week 2 this looks harder.

What would be super is for WvA to take the win in Nimes today

An honest question here. Would it not make sense for EFF, Jumbo or Ineos, or all three to combine their efforts, to put pressure on UAE today by trying to get their leaders into a breakaway? Lots more work and probably will not succeed but worth a try? How vulnerable are UAE at the moment? There is only one more mountain top finish left so trying to get away from TP when he can recover time on a descent will probably not work.

Lets leave the EFF at home because with their red hard hats and jumpsuits they're pretty useless to anyone other than someone looking for a rent-a-protest...

EF E, Jumbo and Ineos teaming up to bring each other back into the race for yellow would require some high level gaming theory mentality and we haven't seen symptoms of that yet so highly unlikely. What could work is further unified isolation of Jumbo like they did yesterday. it seemed stupid but they effectively sacrificed Luke Rowe to achieve this. It worked but had no effect other than to identify TJ has a weakness. That alone is powerful information.

Lets see if Cav can hit number 34 today !  Would be awesome to see.

I'd like to see another winner. Colbrelli or WvA again. Just to keep Cav humble because the cockicracks are showing
